I am trying to find someone to tape the show for me. Then when I watch it on the video I will have Pinky and Potty sitting on each side of me so we can all watch.
(Pinky and Potty are the pots I bought from Guy in a Mudcat fund-raiser)

Just got a chance to watch the segment myself. (Taped it on the television in the reception area at the clinic. Now all the cages are color-coordinated!)

FABULOUS! So informative. It was great to actually see the process.

Some of the gals were laughing about a segment she did where she used old pantyhose to tie up leaning plants in the garden. But in her usual way, Martha admonished that you had to use neutral color pantyhose so they wouldn't 'clash' with the garden. Here we'd thought we'd found a use for the old red pantyhose and fishnet stockings...but Martha says NO! *bg*
And for the F5, I'd probably go with Wishbone and English Ivy, the morning room gets so little sun..*ebg*

Our receptionist was laughing that with that little 'martha stewart' stamp...a person could have a lot of fun. Crime sprees with the little stamp like the mark of Zoro..
"I'm telling you officer, it was an older gal, about 5'8", the pantyhose on her head coordinated beautifully with the rest of her ensemble, the loot bags had tassles even...and she stamped my backside with THIS!!!

Oh I am so upset. The 5:00 pm Martha Stewart show was not the right one. All I saw was how to hold down your picnic table cloth so it won't blow away in the wind.
Potty is so sad he is drooping and Pinky cried so much she lost a few flowers.
Well I am hoping that someone taped Guy's show and that I would maybe be able to get a copy mailed to me.

You all give such a sence of reality to a very nutty day..The telephone at the pottery broke as did my pug mill. Calls from everywhere (100 +).. My town in Ct did'nt have the show so five minutes into it I had to drive over to Washington Ct to a freinds house who was in the right "Cable zone" so I almost did'nt see it.. They did not use any of my music but had some classical expencive sounding pottery music as subtext( Not a conplaint!!!) . I think both John Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia (Where I met Burt) and Montichello down in Va. should be pleased..You Guys<><><><> sending around a vidio ????? I'll just come and visit..I got a guitar just for the airplane and should do the same for a banjo.. Anyway I hope I did'nt put anyone to to much work and thanks for all the Duct Tape and Panty hose though I like purple myself !!!! Love Guy

It was a great show Guy. We stayed up to watch it. It started at 1:30 in the morning but your segment didn't come on until two O'clock, after the bit about holding down the picnic table cloth. I asked the family to go out and buy a video tape 'cos I was on Mudcat Radio last night, but they forgot, so I wasn't able to tape it.

I hope she felt honored to have you as a guest.

Missed the show because I had to work. Guy, if you ever run out of the clay, I'm pretty sure I've got a ton of it in my back yard. I think it used to be a river bed, and if you dig down about a foot and a half, there's this grey stuff. Your pots are beautiful! (Do you need an apprentice? ;-)

Jeri, why not dig some of that clay out your yard and make yourself a set of dishes with cups to match. You would have to get a recipe from Guy as to what to add to the clay and then take it to a kiln. Then Guy would see your fabulous work and hire you on the spot.
You two could 'whistle while you work'.

You're gonna some need ball clay, fire clay, grog, feldspar, and silica to formulate your clay body. Only if you want stoneware though. If you want porcelain, your gonna need some kaolin...

Mbo, first I'd have to get the sand out of it. I would love to know how to "clean" it. I was wrong - it's only about a foot below the surface. (I really hope this grey stuff is clay, and I haven't just uncovered a toxic waste dump or something.)

Maybe the tape of Guy could do the same as the Mudcat Guitar, and travel around the world. Each person could put a postage stamp on it...

Mbo the potters in Honduras call me "Gydo Lobo"<><><> Gydo( because guy is hard to pronounce but also because it means "fighting rooster"and Lobo because it means Wolf but they like it because it is " Doubalo Macho". They are very nice to me I must say!! Jery I'm sorry for your septic system that you have so much clay in the back yard.. Cleaning clay is easy.. Just dig a 10 foot round hole (Save that clay) and build a brick wall and floor. Then build a frame that will hold a shaft with a tee on it to go around at the bottun of the pit. Youl need a horse or two to hook up to the shaft . You now have a "Blunger".<><>< Fill it with 70 gallons of water( Get a pail) and then add your clay ( shovel).. As it mixs with the water it will turn to a cream and the sand will fall to the bottum.. "Slack" of the clay and loose the rest of the water (From the hole I forgot to tell you about at the lower level of the Blunger) Save the sand and add to make clay less plastic..Or we could just mowe the lawn and forget about whats underneith it..

Well I finally saw Guy Wolff debue on Martha's show.
All about how Guy has brought back the French King pots that are 100s of years old.
I watched his son Ben, helping along.
I learned so much! Here is how you make a pot.
You mix dry clay with water and then using a pug mill compress the clay, homogenize it and then wedge it afterwards. Throw it on the wheel. Don't forget the secret ingredient.......let the wheel do the work. Always leave a big hole at the bottom for drainage. You will have to do 3 lifts on your pot. The first one is to control it, the second one I can't remember and the 3rd one establishes pointing of the piece which means how wide the base and top will be and how tall your pot will be. Then spring forming will give your pot its final shaping. Then there is coggling the rim with special coggling tools and Guy embosses with his signiture. Martha even has her own stamp for Guys pots. I guess you can make up your own stamp too. And Guy also stamps the year it was made and the pounds of wet clay used. And we must not forget the fiddling so that there is no rough edges. After that you fired it in a kiln for 14 hours at 2000 F. After that let it cool and it will be ready.

Definitely, do not forget the fiddling. My niece sent me some pots when she first started learning her skill. I opened the box, admiring each in turn, and was perplexed at the red drops on the last one. Those rough edges are razor sharp after firing and I had cuts all over my hands. Never even felt it happening.

Mary, I had that happen to me when I went for my first visit to Ben Owen's shop in North Carolina.I was 19 and knew everything. He said look out that pot has't been sanded yet.. ANyway the pottery floor was red clay so I could hide my misstake.. Cleaning pots after firing is a must .. Espesialy when sending them to people you love or putting them out for sale (Very inbarasing) I had a little boy go out and play in the shard pile ( not a great parenting discision) while his mom was shopping and came in with a cut in the chin he probably has'nt forgotten(Though 20 years ago) . Not a great moment. the lesson is clay when fired is turned to glass!!!! Elle thanks for starting this tape off . What a kind Mudcat sort of thing to do. Long live the spirit here!! Guy, I know what you mean about the sanding. In bronze-casting I even learned to use the heavy-duty electric saw to get the sprues off. Hard work! And abig deal for me, I hate electric tools, they make me *noyvus*!
