Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Mbo Date: 27 Jun 00 - 09:03 PM Aw come on Elle, we watch it just to make fun of it (or MSTie-ize it, if you will). My Mom does a great whiney impersonation of her. And if you know the dirty little secrets like we do, it's even more funny e.g. Mr.Maus was a former Nazi officer being hunted down by the government... --Mbo |

Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: JenEllen Date: 28 Jun 00 - 03:32 PM Just got a chance to watch the segment myself. (Taped it on the television in the reception area at the clinic. Now all the cages are color-coordinated!) FABULOUS! So informative. It was great to actually see the process.

Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: SINSULL Date: 28 Jun 00 - 03:37 PM She had different shades of greens and browns. I thought it was a parody. Guy, Will you be adding a picture of you and Ms. Stewart to Mudcat? I'd rather see the pots than her. SS. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: JenEllen Date: 28 Jun 00 - 03:59 PM SINSULL!! I've missed your wicked ways!! :)
Our receptionist was laughing that with that little 'martha stewart' stamp...a person could have a lot of fun. Crime sprees with the little stamp like the mark of Zoro.. ~Elle(who wonders WHY she hires these people in the first place) |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 28 Jun 00 - 08:09 PM Oh I am so upset. The 5:00 pm Martha Stewart show was not the right one. All I saw was how to hold down your picnic table cloth so it won't blow away in the wind. Potty is so sad he is drooping and Pinky cried so much she lost a few flowers. Well I am hoping that someone taped Guy's show and that I would maybe be able to get a copy mailed to me. Bonnie |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: SINSULL Date: 28 Jun 00 - 08:47 PM Well BB, We are all waiting breathlessly. How do you hold down a tablecloth in the wind? I go for Scotch tape and heavy platters but I bet ole Martha hung bananas and peaches from grapevines or???? |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Alice Date: 28 Jun 00 - 09:20 PM Just go to Martha Stewart dot com and see Guy with Martha in his pot studio. Click on Guy Wolff pottery and planting Guy Wolff potsMartha Stewart GARDEN -click here |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 28 Jun 00 - 09:39 PM Thanks Alice Jen is kindly sending me a video so we can see the show. You won't believe it SINSULL, but Martha used duct tape. It was such a shock that the cameraman fainted and we lost the picture for a few seconds. What an episode. BB |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: katlaughing Date: 28 Jun 00 - 09:47 PM That's great, Alice, thanks...just had a nice tour of Guy's gorgeous pots at Smith & Hawken. I missed the program, too...my vcr wasn't programmed right and started about 15 minutes too late! Guy...did she use any of your music on the show? kat |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 28 Jun 00 - 09:55 PM Well kat, after I get the video from Jen, I'll mail it off to you. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Guy Wolff Date: 28 Jun 00 - 10:29 PM You all give such a sence of reality to a very nutty day..The telephone at the pottery broke as did my pug mill. Calls from everywhere (100 +).. My town in Ct did'nt have the show so five minutes into it I had to drive over to Washington Ct to a freinds house who was in the right "Cable zone" so I almost did'nt see it.. They did not use any of my music but had some classical expencive sounding pottery music as subtext( Not a conplaint!!!) . I think both John Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia (Where I met Burt) and Montichello down in Va. should be pleased..You Guys<><><><> sending around a vidio ????? I'll just come and visit..I got a guitar just for the airplane and should do the same for a banjo.. Anyway I hope I did'nt put anyone to to much work and thanks for all the Duct Tape and Panty hose though I like purple myself !!!! Love Guy |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: JenEllen Date: 28 Jun 00 - 10:36 PM Yeah, I got the video. I'm dropping it in the mail to FairBonnie first thing in the morning. Y'all can fight where it goes from there! It was fantastic! ~Elle |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Bert Date: 29 Jun 00 - 11:23 AM It was a great show Guy. We stayed up to watch it. It started at 1:30 in the morning but your segment didn't come on until two O'clock, after the bit about holding down the picnic table cloth. I asked the family to go out and buy a video tape 'cos I was on Mudcat Radio last night, but they forgot, so I wasn't able to tape it. I hope she felt honored to have you as a guest. Bert. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: katlaughing Date: 29 Jun 00 - 01:26 PM That's what you get for living out in the sticks, Guy!**BG** Next time, she can feature your music as music to "pot" by....! Your pots are truly just beautiful...I really enjoyed the sites Alice linked us to, also I have some special plants from Logee's that will look wonderful in them! Now, Bonnie, thank you, that video can come my way next and anyone else can sign up for it after!**BG** GUY, Bonnie will alert you when it gets sent off, that way you can make arrangements to meet IT here, at MY HOUSE, first with your guitar and, yes, by all means, get a travel banjo, too....Kewl....another traveling Mudder, eh?!!**RBG** Luvyakatlaughingwithjoyandfun! |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 29 Jun 00 - 03:39 PM Kat, this isn't just another traveling Mudcatter, this is a traveling Mudcatter with pot in hand. Bonnie |

Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Jeri Date: 29 Jun 00 - 06:28 PM Missed the show because I had to work. Guy, if you ever run out of the clay, I'm pretty sure I've got a ton of it in my back yard. I think it used to be a river bed, and if you dig down about a foot and a half, there's this grey stuff. Your pots are beautiful! (Do you need an apprentice? ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Mbo Date: 29 Jun 00 - 06:34 PM Guy, you need a official title!! Earlier this summer, my ceramics class asnd I dubbed our teacher Seo Eo "The Clay Elvis." What can we call you? "The Clay Woody Guthrie," "The Clay Wolf"...hmmm...any suggestions? --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 29 Jun 00 - 08:31 PM Jeri, why not dig some of that clay out your yard and make yourself a set of dishes with cups to match. You would have to get a recipe from Guy as to what to add to the clay and then take it to a kiln. Then Guy would see your fabulous work and hire you on the spot. You two could 'whistle while you work'. After I send the tape to Kat, maybe she could send it off to you Jer. Bonnie |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Mbo Date: 29 Jun 00 - 08:47 PM You're gonna some need ball clay, fire clay, grog, feldspar, and silica to formulate your clay body. Only if you want stoneware though. If you want porcelain, your gonna need some kaolin... --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Jeri Date: 29 Jun 00 - 09:38 PM Mbo, first I'd have to get the sand out of it. I would love to know how to "clean" it. I was wrong - it's only about a foot below the surface. (I really hope this grey stuff is clay, and I haven't just uncovered a toxic waste dump or something.) Maybe the tape of Guy could do the same as the Mudcat Guitar, and travel around the world. Each person could put a postage stamp on it... |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: harpgirl Date: 29 Jun 00 - 11:56 PM Guy... Way to go! I keep thinking it would be a great job to be a lady billionaire who went around all day in ratty wool sweaters or work shirts and dirty jeans... |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: katlaughing Date: 30 Jun 00 - 01:14 AM Stepping in for Spaw who is away...I know he wouldn't want this to get past....A Clay Woody, Mbo?!! **BG** At least it would be hard, eh? ***Sorry, sorry**** Couldn't help it, really....!!! Bonnie and Jeri, I love the idea of the traveling Mudcat Pot Tape and will be happy to send it on...I do think we should each put a touristy-type stamp on the actual video label, like they used to do with the old steamer trunks, ya know....a well traveled Pot Tape....LOL!!!
|
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Guy Wolff Date: 30 Jun 00 - 04:06 AM Mbo the potters in Honduras call me "Gydo Lobo"<><><> Gydo( because guy is hard to pronounce but also because it means "fighting rooster"and Lobo because it means Wolf but they like it because it is " Doubalo Macho". They are very nice to me I must say!! Jery I'm sorry for your septic system that you have so much clay in the back yard.. Cleaning clay is easy.. Just dig a 10 foot round hole (Save that clay) and build a brick wall and floor. Then build a frame that will hold a shaft with a tee on it to go around at the bottun of the pit. Youl need a horse or two to hook up to the shaft . You now have a "Blunger".<><>< Fill it with 70 gallons of water( Get a pail) and then add your clay ( shovel).. As it mixs with the water it will turn to a cream and the sand will fall to the bottum.. "Slack" of the clay and loose the rest of the water (From the hole I forgot to tell you about at the lower level of the Blunger) Save the sand and add to make clay less plastic..Or we could just mowe the lawn and forget about whats underneith it.. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: JenEllen Date: 30 Jun 00 - 04:50 PM I vote for mow the lawn...or just get the horses and let them graze. I thought about the steam trunk thing too. Of course only AFTER I mailed the thing off. Now, she's winging her way to Fair Bonnie, y'all treat her real nice, y'heah? ~Elle And whoever's on the tail end of the list, send her on to Mbo too? |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Little Neophyte Date: 15 Aug 00 - 09:10 AM Well I finally saw Guy Wolff debue on Martha's show. All about how Guy has brought back the French King pots that are 100s of years old. I watched his son Ben, helping along. I learned so much! Here is how you make a pot. You mix dry clay with water and then using a pug mill compress the clay, homogenize it and then wedge it afterwards. Throw it on the wheel. Don't forget the secret ingredient.......let the wheel do the work. Always leave a big hole at the bottom for drainage. You will have to do 3 lifts on your pot. The first one is to control it, the second one I can't remember and the 3rd one establishes pointing of the piece which means how wide the base and top will be and how tall your pot will be. Then spring forming will give your pot its final shaping. Then there is coggling the rim with special coggling tools and Guy embosses with his signiture. Martha even has her own stamp for Guys pots. I guess you can make up your own stamp too. And Guy also stamps the year it was made and the pounds of wet clay used. And we must not forget the fiddling so that there is no rough edges. After that you fired it in a kiln for 14 hours at 2000 F. After that let it cool and it will be ready. No big deal Bonnie |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: SINSULL Date: 15 Aug 00 - 12:22 PM Definitely, do not forget the fiddling. My niece sent me some pots when she first started learning her skill. I opened the box, admiring each in turn, and was perplexed at the red drops on the last one. Those rough edges are razor sharp after firing and I had cuts all over my hands. Never even felt it happening. Bonnie, Any idea of when Guy's show will be aired again? Mary |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Bert Date: 15 Aug 00 - 01:14 PM That's right Bonnie, it's easy when you say it quickly. That man's a ^%#*ing genuis. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: JenEllen Date: 16 Aug 00 - 12:14 AM Mary, Add your name to the 'list' and the show will come to you! *bg* ~Elle |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Guy Wolff Date: 16 Aug 00 - 12:11 PM Mary, I had that happen to me when I went for my first visit to Ben Owen's shop in North Carolina.I was 19 and knew everything. He said look out that pot has't been sanded yet.. ANyway the pottery floor was red clay so I could hide my misstake.. Cleaning pots after firing is a must .. Espesialy when sending them to people you love or putting them out for sale (Very inbarasing) I had a little boy go out and play in the shard pile ( not a great parenting discision) while his mom was shopping and came in with a cut in the chin he probably has'nt forgotten(Though 20 years ago) . Not a great moment. the lesson is clay when fired is turned to glass!!!! Elle thanks for starting this tape off . What a kind Mudcat sort of thing to do. Long live the spirit here!! Hi Bert , Is'nt a BLEEPING genius some kind of an oximoron.. Well I guess Bleeping and genius can go together.. One could also be a geius at BLEEPING though that dose'nt fit this situation I fear.. Thanks though for the thought |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: Bert Date: 16 Aug 00 - 01:12 PM I just thought it needed a little emphasis, that's all. |
Subject: RE: BS Guy Wolff on TV 6/28/00 From: katlaughing Date: 16 Aug 00 - 04:18 PM I hear that the tape is on its way to me. And, it looks like Jeri is next. Then Mary/Sinsull, unless I missed someone else? This is gonna be SO much fun; love the instructions, Bon! Guy, I know what you mean about the sanding. In bronze-casting I even learned to use the heavy-duty electric saw to get the sprues off. Hard work! And abig deal for me, I hate electric tools, they make me *noyvus*! kat
