Subject: RE: Thought for the Day - July 1, 2000 From: Little Neophyte Date: 01 Jul 00 - 04:41 PM Well I am not known for a logical mind, and I am not sure if I would want to convince anybody of anything. I guess logic seems kind of limiting to me. Bonnie |

Subject: RE: Thought for the Day - July 1, 2000 From: Jim the Bart Date: 02 Jul 00 - 01:33 AM Logic is a tool. A very good one, if you're trying to cypher something out. But it's not the only one we have at our disposal. The western mind likes it, probably because it's relatively easy to teach and it's really consistent. Personally, I like it. But I don't worship it. And I try not to forget that it has limitations. After all, it is the tool we used to build the box we're always being told to think out of. |

Subject: RE: Thought for the Day - July 1, 2000 From: annamill Date: 02 Jul 00 - 04:46 PM I don't want to start anything and please forgive me Praise but Bill D ( or Brett Lemoine, as the case may be ), what about religion? We are constantly bombarded with non-logic to try to convince us what to believe. My favorite is 'Faith'. My personal definition of faith is belief in something no matter what the facts say. Picking and choosing of facts, taking the ones we can use and conviently leaving out the facts that support the opposite has been another form of non-logic trying to convince me of what to believe. Some of you don't know me very well and I haven't had the time I would like to be here, but I'm not a flamer and I'm not evil or angry, but people trying to convince me that their way is the only true way otherwise I'm 'BAD' make me a little angry. Or that somehow, believing in what you believe in will make my life better or make me happier insults my intelligence and also makes me angry. Bills post just happen to hit me between the eyes. I don't want to change how you feel about religion and I don't care if you're right or wrong as long as you are happy with it. Just please don't come to me with words that mean nothing to me (non-logic) and try to change how I feel about my existance. I'm a very happy person so far. In case it's not clear, I'm an true believer in you and me and it seems to have worked so far for me. Love, annap |

Subject: RE: Thought for the Day - July 1, 2000 From: GUEST,Paddy(1) Date: 02 Jul 00 - 07:17 PM Young fellow goes to University to study logic. Christmas Eve, following his first semester, he is in the local pub and is asked by one of the locals to explain "logic".
He decides to use an example.
"Do you have a gold fish at home?".
"I do" replied the local..
"That suggests you have children".
"I do" replied the local.
"That suggests you are married"
"Remarkable", says the local.
"That tells me you are not a homosexual"
"Unbelievable", says the local. ****************************
In comes another local to the pub.
"I saw you talking to the young fellow, what is he doing in University?", he says.
"Oh, he is studying logic"
"Whats that?", says local Number 2
"Well, I'll give you an example, have you a gold fish at home?"
"No"
"Well, you're a homosexual" ************************
I quit, before I offend anybody else.
