Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive butterfly From: Ferrara Date: 02 Jul 00 - 08:42 PM ps Please don't nobody tell Bill D I asked for this song! -- He loves me in spite of my regrettably non-exclusive and eclectic repertoire, but there's such as thing as pushing him too hard! - Rita F |

Subject: Lyr Add: ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY (Bob Lind) From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 02 Jul 00 - 10:45 PM Oh, alright, then: ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY (Bob Lind) You might wake up some morning To the sound of something moving past your window in the wind And if you're quick enough to rise You'll catch the fleeting glimpse of someone's fading shadow Out on the new horizon You may see the floating motion of a distant pair of wings And if the sleep has left your ears You might hear footsteps running through an open meadow Don't be concerned, it will not harm you It's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of Across my dreams, with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love You might have heard my footsteps Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind I might have even called your name As I ran searching after something to believe in You might have seen me runnin' Through the long abandoned ruins of the dreams you left behind If you remember something there That glided past you followed close by heavy breathing Don't be concerned, it will not harm you It's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of Across my dreams, with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love Across my dreams, with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love Across my dreams, with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love Malcolm |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY (Bob Lind) From: GUEST,ednaelk Date: 01 Jun 09 - 08:44 PM Here are the chords as I play it. Its really easy, I used it to teach myself guitar. Its also been one of my favorite songs for most of my life. C Dm You might wake up some morning G7 C To the sound of something moving past your window in the wind, Dm G7 And if you're quick enough to rise Dm G7 C You'll catch the fleeting glimpse of someone's fading shadow. Dm Out on the new horizon G7 C You may see the floating motion of a distant pair of wings, Dm G7 And if the sleep has left your ears Dm G7 C You might hear footsteps running through an open meadow. Chorus: C Dm G7 C Don't be concerned, it will not harm you G7 C Its only me pursuing something I'm not sure of, Dm G7 C Across my dreams, with nets of wonder, G7 C I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love. C Dm You might have heard my footsteps G7 C Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind. Dm G7 I might have even called your name Dm G7 C As I ran searching after something to believe in. Dm You might have seen me running G7 C Through the long abandoned ruins of the dreams you left behind, Dm G7 If you remember something there Dm G7 C That glided past you followed close by heavy breathing. Chorus Repeat last two lines of chorus twice to end. Enjoy! I'm glad people still sing this, its 40 years old and timeless. Its a wonderful song. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive butterfly From: Leadfingers Date: 01 Jun 09 - 08:50 PM Brain fade has set in , and I cant remember who had 'The Hit' but it WASNT Bob Lind ! Same applied to 'Life Gets Tedious' -Written by Peter Lind Hays and made famous by Carson Robeson . Interesting comparison of names ! Bob Lind and Peter Lind Hays |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive butterfly From: GUEST,M.Ted Date: 01 Jun 09 - 10:39 PM It recorded by a good many people, though Bob Lind had the biggest hit--in the UK, he shared the charts with one Val Doonican, who apparently was known for never wearing the same sweater twice. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: GUEST,bdb Date: 16 Jun 09 - 11:50 PM Wasn't the US version by Glen Campbell? |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Acorn4 Date: 17 Jun 09 - 02:56 AM I used to play it ages ago and used major 7ths for the C and the F -this works really well. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Smedley Date: 17 Jun 09 - 03:28 AM Someone should hunt out the parody of the song, 'Canyons of Your Mind' by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Very funny. I think the first four lines were: In the canyons of your mind I will wander through your brain 'Cross the ventricles of your heart, my dear, I'm in love with you again (probable inaccuracies - ageing memory!!!) |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Acorn4 Date: 17 Jun 09 - 06:40 AM ...through the holes in your string vest, yes, a very funny parody. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Acorn4 Date: 17 Jun 09 - 06:42 AM Apparently he's made a bit of a comeback recently. Some of the songs on his album were good. "Cheryl's Going Home" was covered by Adam Faith. ""Mister Zero" was, to me, far more appealing and less pretentious than what Leonard Cohen was doing at the time, although I realise I may be a lone voice here. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Acorn4 Date: 17 Jun 09 - 10:38 AM ...and "I can't walk roads of anger, I ain't got the time" was a poignant antidote to the protest songs of the era. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: GUEST,mhart Date: 17 Nov 09 - 01:20 AM Bob Lind DEFINITELY had the original hit... The C-Dm-G7 progression is correct, but Bob played it in the key of Eb, so Capo at third fret to play along with his recording... Corny, but wonderful :-) |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: GUEST,The Pump Wheeze and Suck Date: 17 Nov 09 - 02:59 AM The great underrated acid lyric - trippy, but twee execution. First song to open my mind to the path that led me eventually to the ISB. Thanks Bob Dylan and Tambourine Man I guess! |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: GUEST Date: 26 Aug 10 - 10:58 AM you might try a Cmaj7 for your C chord. I think you will find it sounds more like it. ( drop your first finger from the basic C-chord adding an open B string) |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind) From: Joybell Date: 26 Aug 10 - 08:33 PM I think there is a wonderful contrast, in this song, between illusion and reality. I find myself floating around exploring both. One minute I see a heavy-breathing stalker outside some girl's window, the next I see Grimaldi chasing butterflies. Never liked the idea of catching butterflies but as long as it's a metaphor I guess that's OK. Cheers, Joy |
