Subject: HearMe Experiment From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 00 - 02:33 AM I transferred Jons' code from another thread because it was causing problems. Maybe you shouldn't post any messages in this thread, because that might mess up the experiment. If I'm correct, if you're in this thread, you should be in HearMe now. -Joe Offer- From Jon Freeman: I've changed my mind a little. For anybody that may want it, here is the basic code. This will embed Hearme into a web page. Quite frankly, I a never wanted the thing in the first place, anymore than I wanted the ICQ Active list that I also set up to solve problems and handed over to Max at the first opportunity and the last time Max expressed an interest in Hearme, I wanted to hand over. So fuck it, I don't need it, let someone else "control" it. I am through and my page is now closed. Jon

Well, good old Jon gave in to our cajoling, and he'll continue to host HearMe for us. Please remember that Jon hosts it at his own Web site, which means that he's got a right to do what he wants to maintain order and fairness. Sometimes, that means he makes decisions others may disagree with, but I know he bends over backwards to be fair. He's been a wonderful host, from both a technical and personal standpoint. Thanks, Jon. -Joe Offer- Click here for the normal Mudcat HearMe, once again hosted by Jon Freeman. |

Subject: RE: HearMe Experiment From: Jon Freeman Date: 02 Jul 00 - 11:53 AM Joe, I know you have requested no messages but I think this one is in order here (feel free to delete it if required) and it will not effect the experiment but it may help others understand hearme if they wish to. If you go to view the source of this page, you will see between two script tags the basic Hearme script. This is all that is required to make any web page into a Hearme room and will use whatever defaults Heame have set up on thier site at the time. To change any of the defaults e.g., color, size, time limit, combined or seperate text box, the scope of the room (eg. in this case, the hearme room is pivate to this Mudcat thread) etc. involve the use of passing parameters to this script via a form called HearmeVCC. Subject: RE: HearMe Experiment From: Mrrzy Date: 02 Jul 00 - 10:40 PM I was in hearme and opening this thread bipped me out of it, unless it was coincidence... |

Subject: RE: HearMe Experiment From: Jon Freeman Date: 02 Jul 00 - 10:46 PM OK, and Joe, please edit, combine and/ or delete as you feel appropriate. Mrzzy, you as a user can only be connected to 1 hearme room at a time. Moving to this thread while in hearme will cause a diconnect from your previous room and connect you to this one. It is not a coincidence - it is part of the way Hearme disigned things (and I think the got that part right - shame about lack of Mac support though). Jon |

Subject: RE: HearMe Experiment From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Jul 00 - 01:18 AM Hmmm. Now the HearMe box doesn't appear on my screen in the second message, although I checked the source and Jon's code is still there. What happened? And now, three hours or more later, it's back.-Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: HearMe Experiment From: Mrrzy Date: 03 Jul 00 - 12:04 PM Hmmm. Wish I'd known that before I clicked in, I just wanted to keep reading threads while listening to the hearme, and I'd have waited to read this one had I realized that merely opening it would disconnect me. I missed something I was singing along to, but that's what I get for multitasking! No biggie, am sure I'll miss a lot more, and at least this way I know what I missed, always preferable in my tiny mind... |
