Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Canticle of St Francis/Make Me a Channel From: Steve Shaw Date: 12 Feb 23 - 02:10 PM Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace was a kids' favourite at our (Catholic) school assemblies in the early-mid '70s in London's East End, and I "sang" it as lustily as anyone in those days in order to get my class to join in. As Joe will attest, my sentiments have altered ever so slightly since those times... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Canticle of St Francis/Make Me a Channel From: Nigel Parsons Date: 12 Feb 23 - 06:54 PM Jack Campin's comment: Joe's answer is on the money. Thatcher quoted the Prayer of St Francis as her programme at her inauguration in 1979. It was pretty obvious to everybody what she really meant by it, and the gesture was remembered by British connoisseurs of sick and twisted political rhetoric for long after she'd quit. tells us more about his politics than it does about Margaret Thatcher. I would assume that she meant what she said, and it was a heartfelt request for reconciliation. Unfortunately 'the left' in Britain have to have their say on any quotes by Tory ministers. |
