On the way to work, the fog in my head cleared up enough for me to realize tht, of course, I meant Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee. Still could use some help, though. Thanks.

Yeay!!! This is one of my favorite songs. I don't know the chords, but I do have the CD. Those are pretty much the same words on it.

I actually sang this a capella at the Mudcat gathering at Lonesome EJ's house when Bill and Allan traveled through on their Big Adventure. (I don't sing "You're a fine, healthy woman..." I sing, "You're my chocolate chip cookie and ..."

If you want to know the particulars on the CD, let me know and I'll go chase it down.

In the credit where credit is due department, it should be pointed out that "You Bring Out the Boogie in Me" was actually written by Michael Franks.

There is also a version on an out-of-print LP by Humphrey & the Dumprtrucks, a great band from Saskatoon.

Just a couple of variations to this great song - can't recall who I heard do these:

"Your fire has cooked me, mamma, you bring out (etc)"

Or - instead of "chocolate chip cookie" - "you're my chocolate cookie, mamma"

Or - "you're fine as you can be, you bring out (etc)"

Humphrey & the Dumptrucks were a wonderful band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that formed around 1967 and existed into the early-'80s. The original band was Gary (Humphrey) Walsh on banjo and dobro, Michael (Earnie) Taylor on guitar, Graeme Card on guitar and mandolin and Michael (Bear) Millar on bass.

Graeme left the group in the '70s and they carried on as a trio. At one point, Humphrey also left for a while and they played as the Dumptrucks with Bob Evans on banjo.

They became best known for "Cruel Tears," their country and western opera that played extended runs in many of Canada's legit theatres.

They made six LPs, none of which has ever come out on CD. "You Bring Out the Boogie in Me" was on their LP "Gopher Suite" with Michael Taylor singing the lead vocal.

Michael Taylor and Gary (Humphrey) Walsh are now half of a band in Stratford, Ontario called Me & My Uncle that carries on the Dumptrucks tradition. They released a a really nice CD a couple of years ago.

At the Folk Roots/Folk Branches website, you can go the links page and find the links to artists' websites. There's a link there to the Me & My Uncle site that has some Dumptruck info in the bios of Michael and Humph.

This is clearly a the folk processing the 17th-C lyric that started:

Whenas in silks my Celia goes,
Why then, methinks, how sweetly flows
That liquefaction of her clothes.

We'd need somebody from the Cecil Sharp House to trace all the steps, but I'm sure it can be done.
