Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sonny & Terry: You Bring Out The Bo From: WyoWoman Date: 06 Jul 00 - 09:47 PM Yeay!!! This is one of my favorite songs. I don't know the chords, but I do have the CD. Those are pretty much the same words on it. I actually sang this a capella at the Mudcat gathering at Lonesome EJ's house when Bill and Allan traveled through on their Big Adventure. (I don't sing "You're a fine, healthy woman..." I sing, "You're my chocolate chip cookie and ..." If you want to know the particulars on the CD, let me know and I'll go chase it down. WW |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sonny & Terry: You Bring Out The Bo From: Mike Regenstreif Date: 07 Jul 00 - 08:26 AM In the credit where credit is due department, it should be pointed out that "You Bring Out the Boogie in Me" was actually written by Michael Franks. There is also a version on an out-of-print LP by Humphrey & the Dumprtrucks, a great band from Saskatoon. Mike Regenstreif |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sonny & Terry: You Bring Out The Bo From: dwditty Date: 07 Jul 00 - 10:59 AM Mike, I have to search out Humphrey & the Dumptrucks based on the name alone. Thanks for the history. It always adds to the piece. And to Paul S, especially, thanks for posting the lyrics. dw |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sonny & Terry: You Bring Out The Bo From: celticblues5 Date: 07 Jul 00 - 11:20 PM Just a couple of variations to this great song - can't recall who I heard do these: "Your fire has cooked me, mamma, you bring out (etc)" Or - instead of "chocolate chip cookie" - "you're my chocolate cookie, mamma" Or - "you're fine as you can be, you bring out (etc)" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sonny & Terry: You Bring Out The Bo From: Mike Regenstreif Date: 08 Jul 00 - 10:21 AM Humphrey & the Dumptrucks were a wonderful band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that formed around 1967 and existed into the early-'80s. The original band was Gary (Humphrey) Walsh on banjo and dobro, Michael (Earnie) Taylor on guitar, Graeme Card on guitar and mandolin and Michael (Bear) Millar on bass. Graeme left the group in the '70s and they carried on as a trio. At one point, Humphrey also left for a while and they played as the Dumptrucks with Bob Evans on banjo. They became best known for "Cruel Tears," their country and western opera that played extended runs in many of Canada's legit theatres. They made six LPs, none of which has ever come out on CD. "You Bring Out the Boogie in Me" was on their LP "Gopher Suite" with Michael Taylor singing the lead vocal. Michael Taylor and Gary (Humphrey) Walsh are now half of a band in Stratford, Ontario called Me & My Uncle that carries on the Dumptrucks tradition. They released a a really nice CD a couple of years ago. At the Folk Roots/Folk Branches website, you can go the links page and find the links to artists' websites. There's a link there to the Me & My Uncle site that has some Dumptruck info in the bios of Michael and Humph. Mike Regenstreif |
Subject: Lyr Add: YOU BRING OUT THE BOOGIE IN ME (M Franks) From: GUEST,madrat Date: 13 Feb 11 - 11:20 PM here are the actual lyrics as I hear them: 1. I don't know what you got, but it don't take a genius to see That whatever you've got, it's hot and it's melting me. When you move like that, In your groove like that, Makes me want to climb down from my tree. You're a chocolate cookie, baby, and you bring out the boogie in me. 2. All the women I've had, they were glad when my boogie got tired. They would sputter and scratch like a match that you can't set on fire. When you prance like that, In your pants like that, Honey, you could make a blind man see. You're love has shook me and you bring out the boogie in me. 3. Let's go down to the beach. You can teach me a step or two. We can spend all our time drinking wine in a rented canoe. We can kick and stomp. We can roll and romp. We can shake this fruit down from your tree. You're fire has cooked me, baby. You bring out the boogie in me. Your fire has cooked me. You bring out the boogie in me. You're love has shook me up, and you bring out the boogie in me. Baby, you're a chocolate cookie, and you bring out the boogie in me. Babe, you take me back to nineteen and forty-three. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: You Bring Out the Boogie in Me From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 14 Feb 11 - 12:45 PM This is clearly a the folk processing the 17th-C lyric that started: Whenas in silks my Celia goes, Why then, methinks, how sweetly flows That liquefaction of her clothes. We'd need somebody from the Cecil Sharp House to trace all the steps, but I'm sure it can be done. |
