OMG, have just listened to car 67 on my I pod I also have hello this is Joanne, they were the first 2 singles I ever brought, my other half always laughs at me as he thinks I'm the only person who ever brought them lol X

Here in high schools they have a program that tries to impress students
about the dangers of drunk driving. It gets its name because in the U.S.
Every 15 minutes someone
dies due to a drunk driving "accident". I have passed this song on to the person who helps video tape these programs in the schools near here.

Skipjack, you're there son! it finished with 'him' being chucked out pleading to have one more chance but 'she' ses no, only for 'him' to ring her up at the end and sing begging to her down the telephone.

As for 'Big leggy' I've just seen the new John Martyn CD in the shops, I'll take this as a sign and will buy it. you'll have to explain it to the wife tho'...this is the first case of hypnotism on the net that I've heard of so far.

Hmmm. I think you've got two songs here.

Driver 69 drove Car 69, and refused to pick up a fare, cos' it was his missus leaving home after a row, and the song revolved about the cab controller (who had a particularly unattractive Brummie accent) being incredulous that the driver refused to pick the fare up, unbeknownst that it is in fact the drivers wife/partner. Mindnumbingly insignificant, but it sticks in my mind as being none other than the Queen Mother's favourite song!

The song about Joanie is definitely another one, and I've put my best pub qiuz brain on it, and will report back.

Not quite sure what brought this to mind, but anyway...

I'm looking for the lyrics to a song that was a 'hit' in the UK in the late 70's / early 80's. I think it was called 'Car 69' but that may have been the artist.

The chorus was an answerphone message:

"Hello, this is Joanie, I'm sorry but I'm not home
But if you leave me your name and number, I promise soon as I get in I'll phone"

The song was about a lover's tiff that ended in tragedy, because 'Joanie' drove home, crashed and died, due to the fact that she'd drunk too much.

Must ring a bell with someone...
