That's ABC notation. Search this forum on ABC, or go to the ABC website (listed in Mudcat's Links) and get the Standards file to see how such is set up, and get ABC2WIN (to play and display the tune). No charge if you don't need a printout (in musical notation).

Dear Malcolm,

Thanks for printing the file. I have printed it off here as well. Quickly, I'm assuming that the letters represent notes. What's the difference between the caps and the lower case and the numerals? Pardon my ignorance, it looks like it would be a fairly simple thing to decipher once I figure out the method.

The link to Hon. Miss Drummond at JC's Tunefinder is pointed at a non-existent file anyway.  I found this in the Fiddle-L ABC archive; does it help?

Dear Bruce O and MMARIO,

Thanks for the info I'll try and get ahold of the John & Andrew Gow collection, as I think that would be the one the tune is in. Some of my other Scottish collections had some Miss and Mrs. Drummonds titles, though most were reels and strathspeys and not the jig that I heard. There's always the ear method too. Im pretty good at sounding out tunes when they're going strong in my head. Sometimes I have mis-learned bits however, so I'm trying to be more careful. I'll keep trying.

--Phil

That one noted above may not be the right one. There's more than one Miss or Mrs. Drummond of Perth's Reel/ Delight.
The title requested is in Malcolm McDonald's 'A Third Collection of Strathspey Reels', 1792, and John and Andrew Gow's 'A Collection of Slow Airs, Strathspeys and Reels', n.d., neither of which do I have.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could please help me find the music to the jig "The Honourable Mrs. Drummond of Perth's Delight." I have enjoyed Bonnie Rideout's rendition of it on her Kindred Spirits CD and want to work it up on guitar to medley to the tune "Grace Hays Delight." Theoretically, it's a Gow tune, according to the notes on the CD. However, I have not been able to find the music in any of my Scottish collections (Gow, Fraser, Skye, Athole, and more). While I can sound the tune out well enough in my head to probably work up a good arrangement, I have found that if I learn it right, from the music, that I don't gloss over bits that I wish I hadn't. Thanks. Phil Cooper
