Subject: shiona reel From: GUEST,mike cahill Date: 11 Jul 00 - 03:30 AM can anyone point me in the right direction for the dots or a midi of this tune? It is a modern piece written for a film about the US civil war. (The spelling might be wrong) |

Subject: RE: shiona reel From: BeauDangles Date: 11 Jul 00 - 06:33 PM I am probably way off base here, but the only thing that pops into my mind is a piece called Ashokan Farewell, which is fairly widespread in folk circles. Is it possibly you misheard the name of the piece at a noisy session somewhere? This piece is a waltz composed, I believe, by Jay Ungar for the Ken Burns Civil War documentary. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. BeauD |

Subject: RE: shiona reel From: GUEST,guitarist Date: 11 Jul 00 - 10:03 PM well, a quick search on cdnow turned up a couple of screenfuls of hits for "shiona reel" -- most of them on very traditional looking albums, so I doubt it's a recently composed tune. The realaudio clips are usually enough to jot down the tune if you're at all familiar with it, sometimes they start mid-tune but usually you can sort it out -- if it lasts 20-30 seconds usually that's the whole form for a reel. Nothing on it at Fiddler's Companion, couldn't find a midi or an abc, sorry.
