Are you sure you want to do this, because I know of at least 2 bellies that once they start moving, is like watching one of those 1970's oil/water wave machines - they can take hours to stop moving!!!

Personally, mine moves like a slapped blancmange..... ever seen a walrus moving up the beach??

Before anyone else thinks I'm suggesting an orgy, let me come clean. I was thinking of doing a short workshop of do-in(self massage) to warm up and then a bit of belly dancing. The bigger the belly the better - so I reckon the men have a good chance of being able to wobble as many bits as us of the female persuasion.

Talking to Julia at Pippins today, and there is still one room and a mobile home not booked yet. Their rates are very reasonable, and the food is wonderful!!
I'm pretty sure there is still room at the Red lion as well.
Don't forget that there is ample caravan space for those who like to play with trains, and some flat(ish) camping space. I can put up some people, and there's floor space at the pub.
Five weeks to go!!!

Noreen, I've checked at the Institute today, and there IS a piano, AND they have it tuned once a year.
General Interest.
There is something of a stir in the town today. The front page of the local evening paper carried an article about the Institute front door key being MISSING. It's about 8" long and is the original from 1908, when the place was opened. It will cost hundreds to replace, and no-one has any idea where it could have gone.
Local opinion is that it may have something to do with the Young Farmer's rave on Friday night, and that the key now lies at the bottom of the Banwy river.
As you can see, Llanfair Caereinion has it's share of crime and vandalism. We sincerely hope that it remains at this level!!!I don't think they ever locked the door, anyway!!

The tent is not the Crucial point but a 3 season or, better still, a 4 season sleeping bag may be the real clincher. Warmth at night is all, when camping( and a dry sleeping bag)

Noni sends a big wag, and asks what's a melodeon then? She used to have a hearing dog - she and Jake used to run around the park chained together so that we could call them both back (it was a short chain so they didn't mow too many people down). Now we have to use sign language if she happens to be looking at us - failing that we con the kid into running to fetch her. I've got the car situation sorted out now, so I've got transport - and Mark is half-persuaded. Can anyone confirm for me whether a canvas bell tent will be a lot warmer than a nylon ridge tent in mid-october? It may be crucial to negotiations!

I'm getting really excited - but now I have the hard bit of persuading Mark..... I'll start working on that right away. Should I try being really nice, or just wack straight in with the arm-twisting? I'll only bring the hound if I can't get her fed & watered easily at home (tho she would be a useful hot-water-bottle in the tent). Its funny how different dogs are isn't it? Noni is rediculously placid. I think it comes from being deaf - she is so used to not hearing things coming that nothing surprises her or worries her.Her only problem is that she sometimes gets snapped at by other dogs because she can't hear a warning growl. On the plus side, she doesn't have to listen to Amoret & I singing!

This is excellent!! Kingbrilliant, the landlady at the Red Lion is putting her dogs in kennels for the weekend, so there shouldn't be a problem, 'specially if he's well behaved. My two dogs will stay at home because they get all over-excited when they meet new people, and Benson is scared of children-no idea why, he's never had a nasty experience.
they call ceilighs twmpath here, it means hillock. and that's where the musicians played whilst people danced.

Hi, I'm still trying to work out whether we'll be able to make it or not (X-fingers) - but I just wondered whether if we do come we would be able to bring our dog. We'd be camping, and its not essential to bring her (she can stay at home & get fed by my parents along with the mnay cats & gerbils), but some places you can & some you can't so I just wondered... Are dogs allowed in the pub and/or hall? She's a festival-dog (big lazy hound, stone-deaf from a puppy & just goes to sleep).

I'll be trying to get everything finalised from the middle of this month, and hopefully will have maps and stuff ready for distribution by then. I could do with knowing how many "performers" are coming, so that the "all day folk club" can run smoothly.

I was dubious about posting it at first, but then remembered how useful the lesson was when I was first given it at the tender age of 19, by a welshman I nearly married.... couldn't cope with the relatives though, his mother spoke two languages, his father one, he spoke three. Ever had an argument in Welsh, Maltese and English? His father was lovely, but knew only 3 phrases in English, and I can't repeat any of them!!

Well done, Liz, spot on! The problem is that pronounciation varies depending on which part of Wales you are in. North and south are very different, and in Mid-Wales, they make it up as they go along!!!

#Clan vair Care any on# is how I was told to say it..... the Ll sound is the one that most non-welsh speakers find hardest to do. It is a sort of soft cl from the sides of the tongue, rather than the top of it hitting the back of your mouth. Have the tip of your tongue at the back of your top front teeth, that should do it.... A single f is prounounced v, f is written ff. Caer is debatable. One school says it should be care, the other Cayer. You choose - it means (I think?) castle.

You could always go and visit Splot. That's in Cardiff. Or Sketty - that's Swansea. Ah, the romance of Splot....

It was one of my favourite rides when I was growing up in Colorado and was used in the movie Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid. The slide show at this website does not do it justice, but at least you get an idea.

He refers to the gathering as "Llanstock", and I love it.
What do others think?
Eric, there should be people around the station and engine sheds doing unspeakable things to innocent steam engines, so you will probably get the chance to chat, if not actually get your hands dirty. And there's always Jim, he works on the REAL railways!!!!

Well, Eric, you will,(I hope) be coming to Llanfair Caereinion, near Welshpool, Powys. The gathering is on 14th and 15th of October, and I'm really looking forward to it.
We're organising accommodation as we go along. Some have booked in at the pub, some at Pippins, and they still have space. There is camping space behind the pub, floor space in the pub, and caravan space, with power linkage, at the narrow-gauge railway station.
If the weather is OK, outdoor stuff is planned, and I have booked the hall for indoor stuff.
The rest is up to the Mudcatters who manage to get here!!!!!

Bearing in mind that for some of us the idea of going on a STAGE and singing (for 20 minutes!!!! you are KIDDING) is up there with ferrets down the trousers or crawling a mile over broken glass as the preferred way of passing time..but who are Happy(ish) to do the odd song from the floor of a club or in a singaround, This stage thing is ok for those who " perform" but there are some of us who just sing ocassionally (and badly).

Thanks for your kind words, Morticia. I'm suffering a throat infection at the moment, and everything seems to be a huge effort!!!!
We seem to have most things in hand at the moment.
However
A further notion occurred to me, and I would appreciate some feedback.
The hall has a stage and lots of room. What about running a continuous "concert" during the afternoon and evening of the Saturday. Everyone could have-say- a 20 minute spot to do their party pieces. People can come and go as they please, and it would give the locals a chance to see what is going on. Towards the end, when everyone is thoroughly tanked up, perhaps we could all contribute to some tunes that we all know or can busk along to.

Indeed there will be room for you all!! There is space for camping in a small field behind the pub (there are some flattish bits!) or you could ring Pippins, and ask about the caravan that they have, and are letting out for a nominal fee. The number is 01938 810229. Might be a bit warmer!

Hi Bron, As I said from LEJ's I would like to come to your gathering, SkipjackK8 has asked if I will come over with him and I was thinking of asking Sam Pirt. Sam has just had his 21st Birthday so he doesn't count as a child now, and the other one who might be able to come is Eric Symonds. Will there be room for us all? We will probably be cmping. You already know, but I'll put it here to encourage (or discourage?) others. We hope to bring Rosemary's Baby - oops, sorry, our darling offspring, Phoebe, who is 4 and loves music and dancing. She is an unsociable moo (like her mother, go on, I'll say it before you'se lot do) who gets up early and is unbearably cheerful, even after going to sleep at midnight. She regularly goes to Morris practice and has been known to join in with Irish sessions. She has her own variation of 'Riverdance', with some moves I suspect were copied from 'Steps'.

Hi there!
Please could those people coming to Wales in October give me some idea of the number of children coming. I must admit, I hadn't thought the implications through on this one, and I need to know how many kids to expect, so that I can make some arrangements for entertaining them. They won't be able to go into the pub after 9pm, but , if there aren't many, I might be able to sort out some babysitting.
