Dear Group, Travelling in darkest Borneo for enviro reasons, I have discovered an Internet/Web service in this battered coffee room in this battered jungle town, and couldn't resist checking to see if the Fantasy Folk Circle was still circling, and if the definitive definition of a folk song had been reached. I see things are definitely progressing. Two nights ago in Kota Kinabalu I heard something strange: a Sarawak folk dance based on heaven knows what Scottish tune (a Scottishe). The dancers were accompanied by a native orchestra and an screeching electric fiddler. Afterwards I went up and through my interpreter asked the fiddler about his favourite music. The Beegees.

Cheers to all -- and my five minutes are up. Having a strange time, find you are here... Yours, Peter

P.S. concerning T-shirts, make them white. It is 97 degrees here -- dark is out.

Peter: Thanks for the card. Nice of you to think of us when you're so far away. My grandpa used to sing the old song "'Tis Sweet to Be Remembered," and that's the way I felt when I read your thread. Don't all electric fiddles screech? It's ninety-seven degrees here in Alabama, too. Like kiwi, I hope to hear more concerning your musical adventures in Borneo.

Peter-I'm jealous. Very. But the Southern Calif desert gets pretty hot in the summer. I bet it's humid, and those of us who have spent time in the southeast can all say (in unison now) "It's not the heat, it's the humidity..." But I contend that once you've hit 100 degrees Farenheit it doesn't much matter, it's just plain misearable. Enjoy, and we'll be glad when you return. Take care, Susan
