Subject: Unicorns-- not the one listed From: GUEST,Bekki --- healing@frognet.net Date: 12 Jul 00 - 09:55 AM I'm looking for Unicorns as sung by June Tabor (I actually first heard this at Irish Week at Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop in 1984 (?) sung by Mick Maloney, so it's been out there for a while.) Not sure who wrote it. Such a good song I'm not sure why it's not in this collection yet... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Unicorns-- not the one listed From: AndyG Date: 12 Jul 00 - 11:08 AM I'm pretty sure the song you're looking for must be Unicorns, written by Bill Caddick.
Sorry, I can't provide the lyric but the song has been covered by quite a few people so you should have no trouble running down a copy if no-one else on the forum can help.

Subject: Lyr Add: (I DREAMED THERE WERE) UNICORNS^^^ From: Llanfair Date: 12 Jul 00 - 11:51 AM Oh, what the hell, I'll do it anyway. UNICORNS We were travelling north to sing and play for friends that we had never met Been working hard and didn't speak, the sky was grey and threatened wet. I dreamed that I saw Unicorns, I dreamed I saw them wild and white. Their restless beauty filled the world, like a star would light a winter's night. Pure as gold with manes of milk They pranced and danced and cried out loud Bright as rainbows round the stars, Their eyes were soft and sad, and proud. And I wept for the wild and dirty world, for whom this beauty now was lost, And I cursed the hungry mind of man, who feeds the future at such cost My head was bowed,my eyes were closed, but in my ears their voices rang, These few words locked deep inside, and in my very soul they sang. We never went away, you always knew that we were near Remember how to look for us, you'll find that we were always here. I raised my head to seek them out, but the world was empty all around The rain came tumbling from the sky, and washed my dreams into the ground. And when they asked me why I wept, like one who for a dead love mourns, The only answer I could give, "I dreamed that I saw Unicorns". We never went away, you always knew that we were near, Remember how to look for us, you'll find that we were always here. Pure as gold, with manes of milk, they pranced and danced, and cried out loud. Bright as rainbows round the stars, there eyes were soft and sad, And proud. I love that song, Hwyl, Bron. ^^^ |
