Subject: Lyr Add: SUGAR BABE (from Youngbloods)

What I can remember off an old Youngbloods album. Used to sing it all the time but kind of let it slide & now I'm not sure if this is all - seems there was another verse in there somewhere, but maybe this will get you started. I'll try to look through my notes in the next couple of days & see if I have it written down somewhere.

Shoot your dice and have your fun, sugar babe
Shoot your dice & have your fun, yeah
Run like hell, mamma
When the po-lice come
Yeah, sugar babe
Oh, my, oh, my sugar babe, yeah, sugar babe

I got drunk and I fell on the floor, sugar babe
I got drunk & I fell on the floor
That's good corn whiskey, mamma
And I'll have some more
Oh, my (etc.)

Shoot your dice & roll 'em in the sand, sugar babe
Shoot your dice & roll 'em in the sand
I ain't gonna worry, mamma
'Bout no damn man
Hell, no, sugar babe (etc.)

Put your hand on your hip & let your mind roll by, sugar babe
Put your hand on your hip & let your mind roll by
'Cause your body's gonna swivel, mamma
When you go to die
Oh, my, sugar babe (etc.)

That's how I remember it too, Guest, except the last verse is "your body's gonna SHRIVEL" (which makes more sense, when you think about it). I recall it from a great old live Youngbloods album called "Ride The Wind" -- out of print, as far as I know.

I thought Swivel made sense too - as in "turn/spin in your grave"

Aw, shucks! You don't want the old Tom Rush lyrics...?

"Goin' down town and get me a line,
Gonna whup that woman 'till she change her mind..."

"Goin' down town and get me a rope,
Gonna whup that woman 'till she buzzard-lope..."

I'm very fond of old recordings containing grossly politically incorrect (by present standards) lyrics by singers who claim, not only to be liberal and sensitive, but that they always have been.

Peter.
