Dang! I thought I searched. Actually, I did search, but then forgot about it as this thread went on. I'm going to close this thread so there's no further confusion. We do need verified lyrics for "The Gang That Sang Heart of My Heart," but it would be better to have them posted in the other thread.

Joe

The lyrics from Levy have already been posted by Jim Dixon in Lyr Req: Heart of my Heart, along with lyrics for The Gang That Sang Heart of My Heart.

Subject: ADD: The Story of the Rose (Heart of My Heart)
From: Joe Offer

There's sheet music for "The Story of a Rose (Heart of my Heart)" at the Levy Sheet Music Collection, but I'm too lazy to transcribe this evening. Apparently, this is a barbershop quarted standard. I think I've heard barbershoppers do it. Lyrics.com had these lyrics:

The Story Of The Rose (Heart Of My Heart)

A youth one day in a garden fair
A rose found withered and dying,
And all for love, ah! love in vain
This rose was sadly sighing.:

chorus:
Heart of my heart, I love you,
Life would be naught without you;
Light of my life, my darling,
I love you, I love you.
I can forget you never,
From you I ne'er can sever.
Say you'll be mine for ever,
I love you.

verse 2:
Oh, sweet wild rose of a summer day,
Thy love has all been in vain;
Loved by a maid, then cast away,
I echo thy refrain.

chorus:

Words by "Alice"

This Page (click) has some interesting information about the "Original" Heart of My Heart.

Now, if somebody would like to transcribe the lyrics from Levy, that would be really nice. A tune would be nice, too. You can e-mail MIDI files to me for posting: joe@mudcat.org

After a bit more searching, I find that the song I posted is really named "The Gang That Sang Heart of My Heart" Which refers to an older one called (surprise!) Heart of My Heart. Which I shall post as soon as I get a chance, just for the sake of completeness.

Thanks Dick and Cliff: The song I was looking for is the one Dick provided. I thought there had to be verses as well, but I can't recall ever hearing any.

Cliff's chorus seems to be referring to "Heart of My Heart" that Dick provided, as well as to "Walking My Baby Back Home", if I'm reading the chorus right.

Thanks very much to each of you!

There is a lovely song written by Englishman Pete Betts titled They don't Write Them Like That anymore. If this is it I can give the rest of the words. The chorus goes:

Oh how we would sing
what fun those nights would bring
Singing for hours on end
Once we had found a key
oh what harmony those bluesy voices would lend
Oh Heart of my heart just for a start
walking my baby back home
when it comes to an end we'll sing it again
they don't write them like that anymore.

Heart of my heart, I love that melody
Heart of my heart, brings back those memories
When we were kids, on the corner of the street
We were rough and ready guys
But Oh! how we could harmonize
Heart of my heart, oh friends were dearer then
Too bad we had to part---
I know my tears would glisten
If once more I could listen
To that gang that sang Heart of my heart.

Is there a verse to this? I've never heard one.
