Subject: Why do all mudcatters own Computers? From: GUEST,Sol Northrup Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:33 PM Its a funny thing, but everyone on the 'Cat seems to have a computer. How come? Is this a socio-economic thing? Are 'catters all Yuppies? Is it so important to be on the 'cat that poor people have pawned other possessions, or gone without food to buy hardware? Or are 'catters a bunch of rich, White folks with too much time on their hands? Enquiring minds need to know. PS- liked The Cos's thread. |

Subject: RE: Why do all mudcatters own Computers? From: GUEST Date: 16 Jul 00 - 09:20 PM Some dont. Some people pay for their computer access at libraries etc. And they have to wade through mountains of crap like this, sometimes at much cost to the finances. It is well for some who have nothing else to do with their time to participate in this kind of wasteful excersise. If the White, hetrosexual, non-musical, crap loving element of you insist on keeping this, what to me is, a waste of my money, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I hope you all have a nice life. |

Subject: RE: Why do all mudcatters own Computers? From: Lox Date: 17 Jul 00 - 02:43 AM Dear Guest "Don't let the bastards grind you down!" You are interested in what this site has to offer i.e. access to thousands of songs, and people who share your interest. Thats why you spend your money on it. Folk music is about history. More specifically, it is about the history of common people and their struggle to bear up to the harsh realities of life. It exists in loads of different forms in loads of different countries, from Nicaragua (Nicaragua Nicaraguita) to Ireland (home fire), from Vietnam (The ballad of Ho Chih Minh) to The USA (Let my people go), from England (ordinary man), to South Africa. (Whats the name of the new national anthem?... something sikelele Africa) Anyway, the point is, that even though Folk may have become the plaything of dreamy woodstock nostalgics, that doesn't mean that they have any superior claim to it. In fact, quite the opposite is true. As long as there are cultural and social divides, folk music will continue to flourish. It could be argued that artists like "Gil Scott Heron" and the "Last Poets" were protagonists of a new kind of urban folk when they spawned Hip-Hop back in the 70's. You've answered the original question yourself anyway: not all mudcatters own computers. |

Subject: RE: Why do all mudcatters own Computers? From: paddymac Date: 19 Jul 00 - 12:16 PM "thsppppppppppppppppbbbbbbbbbbbbbppppppppppppppppppppbbbb" That's supposed to be a typographical representation of an authentic folk raspberry. Time out while I clean the splatter off my screen. Ah, much better now. Well, dear Guest and potential friend, it seems to me that you might profitably spend some of your precious time in a maturation process. When you have grown-up a bit (metaphorically, as the process is largely independent of age) do come back and take a seat at the table. |
