I mentioned this in a previous thread, but maybe it deserves its own.

Maybe some of the pressure could be taken off the discussion forum by creating a page full of links to other lyric sites, something like what Kenny Bellew has done with his Karoke Links page.

It could even work like the DT lyric database, with people sending in sites to be incorporated into the listing. Links could be associated with keywords (@Country, @swing, @celtic, etc) and searched for.

I know this would be more work (sorry Dick) but it seems so sensible I wanted to bring it up.

I think this has been addressed before, and Dick said that there would be too much awkwardness to have some links and not others. Since this is a commercial site (even though it does not feel like it to most of us) the management does not feel comfortable being in the position of a clearing house.

I too, would love to see links, but I suspect we will have to continue posting them ourselves as best we can.

I think that would be a wonderful idea too, but understand about the work involved, etc. Would anyone who is a member here be willing to post, periodically, such an update on links? We could all send that person the links we have with short comments as to content, etc. A thought?

This is not a commercial site. We have no advertisements for sale and intend none. We are a two non-profit corporations cooperating for a common good for only its point. Any money we should get (none yet) shall go 100% and direclty into a better Mudcat. As you may notice, we are in need now of a more reliable site. Too many problems now, and we cannot afford the upgrade. But we're working on it. Fund raisers are planned, but I will not proceed if it is percieved as a commercial action. Simply, we will continue and advance as long as we can afford it. I hope we can and do.

I will create a serve-yourself links page and monitor its activity. If anyone has objections to how it goes, post them here and I will consider them and the links page itself. It makes sense to me, and if it is in your hands, it has to be fair.

Howdy Max & All,

What a quick response from on high to a good idea. This will save some of us from searching back for listings that we forgot to bookmark on our own. The keyword search could be a really helpful feature.

Allinkausay,
Bill

Yes I am married... for now. I work so much, though, that it may not last much longer. But then again I thought she'd leave me when she found out what kind of music I listen to and play. Now her requests include Libba Cotton and Leadbelly to name a few. I converted her. She'll make it.

Max.....

I have wads of links, semi-indexed, that I was going to put on a web page for the group.

Shall I do that, and/or would you like me to send you the links?

....Tiger

Max I'd love to see the linx put a jinx in the rock & roll overflow, put the punk in the trunk & send it on the go. It'll trim the threads, I'm sorry you dead heads, You'll see some sites you should've have seen before. (tune : Who Put The Bop, words me) I continue to follow these threads, without responding, & feel guilty not responding to some questions asked, about some things I could answer, I wouldn't know where to send them if I could, & I won't feel guilty about not responding. Anything that helps Max , Thanhs, Barry.

OK, I have been working all day on something that takes advantage of the cookies that I have been placing on your pages as you signed up for the membership. This is a serve yourself links page. It is a system that allows you all to enter links to your favorite sites and other links of interest. It is somewhat of an experiment because it relies on honesty and collective thought.

There is a form here (http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat/links/EntryForm.cfm) where you can enter new links to the pages. You can view all of the links in the database here (http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat/links/all-links.cfm). Taking advantage of membership, you can go here (http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat/links/all-new-links.cfm) to see only the new links since your last visit to the links pages. You can also search the links pages here (http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat/links/findlinks.cfm) by category, title or description.

Remember, you must be a registered member (free) to participate in this feature. If you try to go to these pages without a cookie, you will be automatically forwarded to our membership page or will receive an error. Which leeds me to remind you that this is a prototype. It will change as the days go on, and may have a bug or so. Let me know how you like it or what I could change or what doesn't work in this thread.

Oh, yes, you can also keep a personal bookmark file of your favorite links too. You must see it to believe it. We are now working on the same idea with threads.

Howdy Max,

I thought I'd try out the new links right away. My browsers are only letting me enter 33 characters after http:// -- and that's just not enough for most URLs that I've run across (including the one for the society or club or group that I was trying to enter). I'll try again in a day or two and see if it works.

Everything about it looks great as far as I could see.

Allinkausay, Bill
