Subject: RE: Lyr? From: Whippoorwill Date: 22 Jul 97 - 02:54 PM As far as I can remember, Pete, what you've got is all there was. That was recorded in the mid-50s by one of the many quartets extant at that time... the Four Somethings or the Somebody Brothers, there were a bunch of them. I believe, though, she was a "bright-eyed doll," rather than a "blue-eyed girl." |
Subject: Lyr Add: DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE From: pete Date: 22 Jul 97 - 01:31 PM There's a version of the old gospel song that goes: I met my little blue eyed girl... Down by the riverside, down by the riverside, down by the riverside... I asked her for a little kiss... Down by the riverside, x3 She said, "Have patience, little man. I know you'll understand. I hardly know your name." I said, "If I can have my way, Baby some fine day, Your name and mine will be the same." I wed my little blue eyed girl... Down by the riverside, x3 I wed my little blue eyed girl, down by the river side, Down by the river, riverside, riverside, riverside." I'm sure I'm missing a number of verses between 'meeting' and 'asking for a kiss' and I could probably draft an appropriate interim set of verses, but I'd like to know what the original verses are. Many thanks for the assistance. // Pete pete@ada.com |
