Subject: New Material on MP3 From: Jim Krause Date: 19 Jul 00 - 12:39 PM Just heard a great talkin' blues from the pen of Utah Phillips, when I got to wondering; How does an individual, or a group make material available on MP3? |

Subject: RE: Help: New Material on MP3 From: Willie-O Date: 19 Jul 00 - 05:38 PM If it's mp3.com, you have to record some music which is either original or public domain (or you have definite permission from the writer/composer to use), put it onto your computer as a WAV file, convert that to mp3 format using the specs mp3.com requires (stereo, 128kbs), and sign up as an mp3 artist. (free process) mp3.com creates an artist page for you using the info you send like this one, mine, for example. Then you upload your mp3 file(s), mp3.com's "team of musicologists" supposedly vets them--they don't say for what, but I guess for copyright violation and maybe obscenity--and there they are on your mp3.com page. It's not terribly complicated. You specify the usage allowed for your mp3 tracks--whether they are free downloads, or available only by ordering the CD (but stream a lo-fi version so the listener can check them out), and what the genre label you prefer is, so people can find them on the chart listings. It's kind of fun. But it sure takes a lot of time away from playing! Lots more info available at mp3.com--just click on an "Artist Area" thread. Willie-O
