Subject: Term Request: Transperformance? From: GUEST,kcomroe@mtholyoke.edu Date: 19 Jul 00 - 03:44 PM Does anyone know the actual term [or an alternate term] for a trans-performance? As I understand it, a transperformance is sort of "playing out of the box" and doing something other than the normal style of music, f'rinstance a rock musician doing an entire set of tunes by a folk artist. A music group at my college is planning on doing a crossover performance of this type, but we need an alternate term for the event. Much appreciated! -- Kyra |

Subject: RE: Term Request: Transperformance? From: GUEST,kcomroe@mtholyoke Date: 19 Jul 00 - 05:36 PM Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm afraid neither term will apply - this is a planned event, and there's not likely to be any improvisation involved. We're doing a Sinatra set from written charts, and I doubt there'll be much soloing apart from what's already written in. -- Kyra |

"Dylan plays Mantovani"
"Jigs and reels with Willie Nelson"
"Paul Simon sings Ewan McColl"
"Pete Seeger plays Beethoven" (Well, he's done that, as it happens, in Goofing Off Suite And very nice too.)

Subject: RE: Term Request: Transperformance? From: GUEST,kcomroe@mtholyoke.edu Date: 20 Jul 00 - 12:25 PM I thought crossover referred to a mixing of styles, like fusion or rockabilly...? I kinda like the Pablo Casals skiffle group... dunno iffen the boss-man would go for it, but hey. Worth a shot, right? ;) -- Kyra |
