Aargh, got stuck at the bottom of the old thread, after this one got started up. I'l repeat, for all you 'Peanuts fans?

Turtle, I was referring to Peanuts On Parade; giant Snoopys. Some have been vandalised (ears ripped off, etc.). It's a rip off, I think, of something with giant pigs in Chicago, and a belated acknowledgement of St.Paulite Charles Schulz. How could you miss them?! :)

And BlueJay---Nope. We're not even closeto Minnesota Junction, WI.

Strewth, how can you now warm to a place where you can find the words
'giant Snoopys. Some have been vandalised (ears ripped off, etc.). It's a rip off, I think, of something with giant pigs in Chicago,'
appended to a thread as if they were the most natural sequitur in the world. It must be something to do with the ol' genius locii. Either that or the fillets of plaice.

Ture - and worse. I remember a pal of mine got a summer job where he had to dress up in a Disney costume outside a cinema in Central London.
One night we all turned up to take the piss and generally indicate to him the error of his ways. The result was, after three hours in the Coal Hole in the Strand, gentle Baloo rips off his own head, bellows "Bollocks to this - I'm worth more," and relieves himself up against a lamp-post.
I'd love to know what the parents said to the child who piped up: "Mummy, Baloo's pulled his head off and is doing a wee-wee."
Baloo didn't keep the job, by the way. Disney get very sniffy about their squeaky clean image being tarnished.

That guy is a hero!!!How about an epic ballad on it?! I'm serious. Updating my past messages:two hours south from Sydney, breathing ground, taming eucaliptus trees, looking after insects and watching out for baobabs. And in the evening, dancing and playing with a crowd of friendly souls. That's where I want to be and where I'm gonna be tomorrow.YAAAAAAI!!! Wow. The things you can miss in your own twin city. Must have something to do with not having a TV, not getting the paper, not listening (much) to the radio . . . Lepus, thanks for enlightening me--I think.

I did see some of those cows in Chicago, too--actually, I thought they were kinda cool. But maybe just because they reminded me of home. Having worked for Ben & Jerry's for a while, I'm probably less surprised than most people by the cow-as-icon in odd colours.

Lepus, where around here do you play/sing/whatever it is that you do?

Turtle: Well, I play cds, at my home, and go to concerts at the Cedar Cultural Centre. (Yuk yuk yuk) Seriously, though, I'm not a professional musician or anything. I'm currently trying to figure out which instrument I'd like to make a lame attempt at playing... Hard to decide. You could say I lack focus, somewhat. So other than singing for my own amusement and experimenting with household appliances, I can't do a damned musical thing, hehe.

How 'bout you, Turtle?

Hi Lepus, sorry for the delay. I only have Internet access at work, so on the weekends I'm mute as far as the Mudcat is concerned.

Well, I go to concerts at the Cedar too, and volunteer there on occasion. And I also play CDs at my house! I'm not a professional musician either, but I sing with a women's a capella vocal ensemble called Spices. We sang at the open mike at the Cedar in April, and at the Art-A-Whirl in Northeast around the same time. We've been lying low for the summer, but we have a couple gigs already for the fall, and we'll be looking for more.

And I just started playing fiddle eighteen months ago. I take lessons from Bill Hinkley at Homestead, and I'm just starting to take lessons from Tim Reese of Pig's Eye Landing too. Lately I've been going to the old-timey sessions on Saturday morning at the Prairie Star and sitting there holding my fiddle and every once in a while getting a note or two in. You can't really call that playing, but it's kind of fun anyway. And maybe someday I'll be able to keep up with them.

And I dance at Tapestry almost every Saturday night. I guess that counts as a musical activity!

Greetings to everyone from Hamburg in Northern Germany!

I have spent my childhood in the bogs of lower saxony, not far away, for ten years now I have lived in the city.

But in my mind I have travelled all around the world and even to the moon... since I read Jules Verne I cannot get enough of distant Islands or strange countries...

Sometimes I follow Charles Darwin on his voyage with the BEAGLE, sometimes I cross the Rockies with Charles Fremont, sometimes I even go to the moon with Jules Verne's Gun Club members!

And my big dream is to see all these Lands in my books. And then to come home to the greatest of all cities.

well, Hamburg is a harbour place, and the big ships call me everytime I come to the docks... do you know this little lullabye "Barges"?

It inspired me to a song about my dream ships.

"where the golden vessels flow"

1. Come with me / to the ocean where the golden vessels flow follow me / to the sea of my fantasy

Sail with me / to treasure island fight John Silver and his Crew gold and jewels / gleaming diamonds and the sky of blue

Ref.: High in the sky / Colours we fly dolphins playing in the silver waves fame and glory waiting for the braves and triton will invite us to the secrets of his corral caves

2. Close your eyes / get on board Set the sails and leave the port Take a course / behind horizon just keep sailing on

Neverland / or Taka Tuka the barge will take you anywhere Hear the call / of the lookout land is over there

Ref.

Hope you all will see the lands of your dreams someday!

r.

Guten Tag, Rollo! It's good to hear from Hamburg. I'm in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. If you like Jules Verne, you've got to read H.G. Wells...superb stories of great depth and imagination. Also check out the adventures written by H.Ryder Haggard, such as "She" and "King Solomon's Mines", and "The Lost World" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling.

Then read a true historical book about the North American Indians by Dee Brown, called "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee", if you are prepared to feel very, very sad.

Best wishes,

George

I am at Tularosa,NM, 100 miles north of El Paso. Prior to that, Woody Creek, CO, home of the infsamous Hunter S. Thompson. Prior to that, Aspen, CO, a suburb of Woody Creek (*BG*). Prior to that, Jeffery City, WY (sorry, nothing happened here). Prior to that, Boulder, CO, before the hippie invasion. Prior to that, Aspen, before the rich people moved in. Prior to that, Plentywood, MT. Prior to that, Aspen, my original stomping grounds.

Sydney, Orstraylia. Loving the idea of a gorgeous Sydney Spring (albeit hampered by Olympic Fever).

Never been anywhere off this island - looking forward to my first overseas sojourn next year (have voice, will travel).

Cheers

Hamilton, NZ, but born in Grays, Essex, England. And no, I've been out here too long to be an Essex Girl!!!! In fact I've been out here so long (but back a couple of times)that I don't really know where I'd rather be. The life is very easy out here, but I miss the history and culture. One place I'm glad I'm NOT at the moment is Sydney...

I've lived in Caerfyrddin (in English, Carmarthen) in west Wales for 18 years, two years in Cardiff before that. Moved to Wales in 1980 from Canada where I was born and raised. Port Colborne, in the Niagara Penninsula is my home town but I've *done time* in Toronto, London (Ont.) and St. Catherines.

I've travelled a fair bit, but usually with work: Donostia, Spain; Cannes and Paris, France; St. John's Newfoundland; Northern Ireland; Scotland; etc. but that means that you generally see very little of *life*. So as of last year a friend and I have decided that we're gonna try to do one *short break* holiday a year somewhere in Europe. Last year was Dublin, this year was Amsterdam and Tralee. Oh, not counting the Mudcat get-together at Llanstock with Llanfair!

Then, at Christmas, I'm taking my god-daughter to my home town - her first flight, her first foreign country. I think I'm as excited as she is!

IN THE BEGINNING God said "Let there be Maine!" There was a surge of power as the cosmos shaped itself. When all had settled God looked upon His handiwork and declared it perfect in every way.

A nearby cherub asked what was next and God replied that now that he had achieved perfection he would have to create a universe in which to place it. And so, the rest of the universe was created.

And I live in Bath, Maine.

mistakenly thought i'd replied to this!

i'm in clare, south west suffolk, uk.nearest 'catters are mcgrath in harlow, or grab(?) in cambridge

this was the big apple of the 13th century, eleanor of aquitaine buried here, dukes of clarence named from here, claret named after the grapes that were taken from here to france, county clare in ireland was a wedding settlement.

i'd be happy to be sure i could stay here for the rest of a very long life. the people here are close, not closed, quiet with a low crime rate.

as an alternative, i'd like to see new england, somewhere where the leaves turn amazing colours in the autumn, where there are definate seasons, snow in winter, sun in summer, but neither in extreme. or even new zealand.

dream on as they say any 'catters nearer than those mentioned? cheers

bill

I'm not too far from Clare at weekends (having a schizophrenic existence split between the middle of London and bucolic bliss in East Herts, just outside Ware).
Suffolk is where I want to be, though. I spent four years living in and outside Lowestoft in my first proper job, and have never been happier. Oh for the Waveney Valley and those wonderful skies, the Adnams and the fantastic sessions.
One day, though, I'll be back...
