Subject: Crossing the Water, NOT by Staines From: wysiwyg Date: 24 Jul 00 - 01:33 PM On this one also I have done the looking I know how to do. This is on the album, Schooners-- and is NOT the Bill Staines song of the same title. Lyrics would be a start. (My tape is all muddy where Coca Cola got dumped on it.) Chords matching the tape would be MOST appreciated! ~S~ |
Subject: Lyr Add: CROSSING THE WATER (Joanne Davis) ^^ From: Melani Date: 24 Jul 00 - 02:11 PM Praise--here you go. CROSSING THE WATER by Joanne Davis I have seen you leave the shore at sunrise I have felt your oars as they glide I have poured you honey from the morning sun Heard you call to the other side. I have carried your voice along the wind I have tumbled it on the tide I have lifted it as its sound grew dim, Swallowed it as it died. You may row the boat forever, believing you are free You cannot cross the water, you can only row to me. I have seen you pause at midday Your hands all tired and sore I have heard you curse yourself for a fool That you have not progressed more. And I've heard your curse that water For keeping you from the land Even as you reached for me To cool your weary hands. You may row the boat forever, there is nowhere I won't be You cannot cross that water, you can only row to me. I have seen you in the sunset With a compass in your hand I have felt you change direction Trying to reach the land, And I've seen you looking homeward Ah, but sailor, this water is wide If you knew my voice I would tell you, Lay the oars aside. For you'll turn the boat forever, I am neither lake nor sea You cannot cross the water, you can only row to me. You may row the boat forever, there is nowhere I won't be You cannot cross the water, you can only row to me. © 1989, Joanne Davis ^^ Line Breaks <br> added. |

Subject: Lyr Add: CROSSING THE WATER (Bill Staines)^^ From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Aug 00 - 05:58 PM Carol Holdstock sang this at our song circle last night, and did a wonderful job of it. It certainly deserves to be posted. -Joe Offer- CROSSING THE WATER (Bill Staines) CHORUS We are crossing the water our whole life through, We are making a passage that is straight and true. Every heart is a vessel, every dream is a light, Shining through the darkness of the blackest night. For there is no shallow water, and not but love to keep Us safely from the dangers and the devils of the deep Yet with every breath within us, we search forever more, To find some peaceful harbor on that far off shore. CHORUS For some it is a glory, for some it is a game, For some it is a story filled with emptiness and pain. But as rising winds in chorus, we search for steady ground, There is only that before us, there can be no turning 'round. CHORUS Oh, there is no other journey that will ever be the same, No second chance horizon that will call you by your name. When the welling waves wash o'er you and the stormy winds, they drive, Give your heart a song, sing it loud and long, keep your dreams alive. CHORUS c1992, Mineral River Music / BMI (Recorded by Bill Staines on his "Going to the West" album) JRO ^^ |
