I am going on holiday in Anglesey (North Wales) from 5th to 12th August with a group of friends. (Yay hay eee!!!!)

Could be a long shot this - but does anybody know of any folk clubs that we might visit while we're there?

Anything else you think might be of interest too?

Catrin

I dno't know of anything on Anglesey but maybe there is still something happening in Beaumaris either in the Buckley Arms or the Bull. The folk club used to move between the 2 venues. I know John who ran it had packed in but something in the back of my mind says he was interested in starting again.

I am out of touch but off the Island, Bangor is the nearest venue. To the best of my knowledge, the Friday night Irish session is in the Nelson and I think that the Tap and Spile still has a Monday night Welsh session.

Other than that, the nearest venues I can think of would be the Mount in Llanwnda on a Thursday (assuming it is still going) and the Conwy Folk club on a Monday.

Jon

Hiya Catrin, I don't know of any clubs, but some singers / musicians / drinkers etc are camping at Roscolyn (I'm sure that spelling's wrong, but it sound like that) on Anglesey for the next couple of weeks. They are probably worth looking up. If you need an intro, ask for John & Annie (+ sprog) and say JJ sent you. Have a good time & don't be away from Manchester (I think that's where you are?!) too long, your beer will go cold. Cheers, John

Just 'peeped in' to Mudcat for ten mins to find your message Jon J.

Thanks - that should be fun!

On my way out now.

Catrin

(Yep! I am from Manchester - the beer will wait for me, while I'm gone, cheers!!)

It's Rhoscolyn. Was there last at Easter, not in the White Eagle all the time!. Be warned that the A5 is being widened or re-routed which pretty much bu**ered up most journeys across the island. The new stone wall being built alongside it is supposed to be the longest since Hadrian. When going down the lane to the sea try to visualise the traffc chaos my late father-in-law used to cause towing his Wayfarer dinghy,or even just carrying the mast, down that narrow winding lane, with no passing places, others had to back into people's gateways umpteen times on the way!
Lovely part of the world if you like wlking and birdwatching and don't mind getting wet.

Thanks Roger,

I expect that most of the time we will be chilling out and trying to forget about 'real life' and all its responsibilities. We're a group of friends who have known each other since we were teenagers and rarely get a chance to spend any time together. So in some sense, it doesn't matter where we are, because its the 'being together' bit that matters most.

Mind you, I'll definitely keep my eyes open for the White Eagle'.

Thanks,

Catrin

Clubs in Rhyll, Friday I think. Then of course there is the Rhuddlan Festival which I think is on sometime then. Small but perfectly formed.

Not on the island but near. There is an excellent session, music & song, at the Newborough at Bontnewedd (1.5m) South of Caernafon on the Porthmadog Road every Thursday evening.
