Terry,

if you click on PM next to my name you could send me the names of your schools and the years you left and I will send you the links to your class mates.

By going through the PM - Private Mail link you will not have to reveal private information to the public. It's best to "join" Mudcat so that you can receive PMs yourself.

Terry,

we live near the junction of Egerton Road and Wilbraham Road. The Oaks was knocked down about 10 years ago but the Lloyds, The Royal Oak and all the pubs around Chorlton Green still survive and they have been joined by about 20 conversions of shops to small bars many of which are great fun although Real Ale is rare.

Try friends Reunited it really is amazing!

ps the last place I lived before leaving England was on Sandy lane Chorlton, I used to go to the Oaks pub on Barlowmore road/and Princess parkway, they had music and dancing on weekends. Hey thanks again.

So, Terry would that be about 1963?

What do you do apart from work? Perhaps you could make contacts through places of leisure? The Manchester Evening News runs a couple of contact pages every week. You could try the MEN online.

Friends Reunited is another route. Which schools did you attend? You will find your class mates listed under the year they left so if you left secondary school in 1956 have a look at your school for that year and you will find somebody or other!

Cheers

Now lets see... Bald Eagle suggest tall, and I dont remember anyone particularly tall, Bald? well, by now most of can expect to be bald, so that's not much of a clue. Derbyshire? nope, doesnt help either. But now then, if you know Clyde Rd. then it may be Dick (I still have the first guitar you made) or Dr. Fish(er) ?

Now this is an old thread, I know, but I just had to come in here and say something. I was a student at Manchester till 1976 or so . I lived in Rusholme & W. Didsbury and also cut my teeth, singing at the Welcome Inn in Rusholme, in fact I was sarting through some old tapes when I came across a news interview, in which I was 'spokesman' for the commitee, which forced the city council to re-consider its demolishion order, when they were 'renewing' the area. I also knew Paul Conner, and glad to hear he was still around at the time of posting ! Is this still the case? I think I remember a Bryn who also sang at the Welcome's Tuesday singarounds. I also knew a fair few in the Manchester scene, including, the original song carriers club. I havent seen, nor been in touch with anyone since I left Manchester in 1978, until recently, when I googled around with some old names and places. I have since found this thread, and also got in touch with someone else from my Manchester of the 70's , a Song Carrier & Welcome Inn regular, Rowdy Yates. he ran the Lifeline drop in centre in town. Anyone else remember anyone else? Actually, I'll try stating a new thread I think .

Thanks again, Bernard. Roll on next Monday!

Bald Eagle - I think that's the chap!

Threadbare looking is what he is and what he likes to be. Loves opera too which makes him difficult to stereotype.

Bernard - I've got the pics. They're lovely - downloaded an 'evaluation file' from winzip - free for 21 days.

Alas, I shall not be there this Monday - I shall be holidaying in Anglesey - doesn't stop everyone else going - (it's a public house after all) - as long as you come back when I'm there! - or I'll cry.

Is Paul Connor the Paul I remember from the Welcome Inn (see above...). Is he somewhat... (searches for an appropriate adjective) threadbare... looking, are his songs exceedingly witty and does he love opera?

Okay except for one thing - Hotmail limits your email capacity! I used to use Yahoo! which had a similar restriction, so I signed up with FreeServe - problem solved!

As to having the cat basking in mud - too obvious! Sending a cat to Cat from MudCat - now there's devious!

Clear your email backlog and I'll try the piccies again.

One other thing - does Hotmail restrict the NUMBER of attachments? Yahoo! does...

Paul Connor - of course! Now I remember! Must be over twenty years since we last met - no wonder he doesn't recognise me!

I'll sort out the photos this evening, and email them in JPeg format. If that doesn't work I'll try something else...

Windows 98 Pbrush recognises JPegs, though 95 and previous doesn't. If you've got Office 95 or better, you should have Microsoft Photo Editor - that also handles JPegs.

Failing that, download something!

Landlord and his wife = Mike and Sheila Parody singer = John Green Vociferous chap?? D'you mean Paul Conner, The Mad poet? who writes his own three or four liners and spends quite a few minutes on introductions (part of his style). Must be him - can't think who else you might mean.

Bernard - I am extremely impressed by your name remembering ability!

BTW count me in for some photies - I have no idea what my computer will, or won't, accept so I suggest going for whatever's easiest for you and taking it from there.

Thanks,

Catrin

On Monday night there was Joe 'in charge', you, the vociferous chap who I know from years ago but he didn't seem to recognise me (!), Noreen, Dick, Martin, Joan, Derek, JJ, the chap who sang the Les Barker parody on Lord Franklin, and me. Oh, and the Landlord and his wife.

Oh, while I think on...

Anyone who wants the photos taken at the Jolly Angler on Monday night, email me on:

mudcat@bernardcromarty.co.uk

and I'll send them to you. Don't expect an instant response, but I'll be as quick as I can.

Let me know if you want them separately as 18 JPegs (or GIFs, or whatever), all zipped together in one file (because some systems limit the number of attachments you can receive) or as a PowerPoint presentation (not done it yet!)! I have PowerPoint 2000, so can save in whichever version you require.

Well, I just don't know - I've got to wait two weeks before I find out 'cos they're waiting for someone to get back from annual leave before they can interview them - that's the second time that's happened to me - It must be the time of year. I'll just have to try not to think about it.

Thanks for all the good luck wishes!

Ey up D the G! You forgot to mention the annual festival! If you book Earls Morris again this year, we'll do our best not to all be ill at once! Honest! We've had some new members recently, so that improves the odds!

One of our Morris ladies is having her 50th 'do' on St. Patricks night, and is organising a ceilidh. Are Kamikaze available, and how much (Antrobus village hall)?

The alternative is 5BG - best price wins! We've had 5BG for our last two 'do's', and JJ knows why I'd like a change... :(

I'll try to get to the White Lion sometime soon! Meantime, ring or email for Cindy's number...

This thread is rapidly becoming an 'old friends reunite', with the emphasis very firmly on the old!

Retrospective good luck with the interview - how did it go?!!

Don't worry about poaching, Dave the gnome, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned and people can choose, or alternate or whtever they want. Co-hosting a mudcat do sounds like a good idea though - perhpas we could tour the local folk clubs with it?

Just a thought.

Don't forget, if you don't fancy going into the big metrolops on a muggy mundy there is always what is I believe the longest continuous club in the area on the same night - The White Lion at Swinton - 5 miles west of centre along the A6. Singers/Guests alternate Mondays. £2 on a guest night (if you ask me nicely...) and 50p on Singers night (Free if you do a bit!)- Not trying to poach - honest! Just letting people know.

I'm not sure about letting in noisy bearded accordianists from Farnworth though.....

Guess who Bernard???

I will try and sneak off one Monday for a night at the Anglers though - but don't tell anyone!

Perhaps we could co-host a MudCat 'do'?

A good night woz 'ad by all!

Just a pity the insidious ilness called 'depression' had got the better of me by the end of the evening...

I must have enjoyed myself, though, as I didn't leave early!

For those who weren't there/have never been - it's a cosy, friendly little pub, the spicy chicken is magic! A pity that was a one-off for Dick's birthday!

There will be some incriminating photographs for people to peruse shortly, when Iv'e time to upload them...

Graham Sowerby is no longer active at the Railway, he has a couple of bands and a thespian group to take up most of his time, and it's even been reported his narrow boat is up for sale...

Just sorting out some emails, then I'll be off to the JA - ETA around 9:00.

Ian S. When were you a regular there? I've been going in for about ten years. Perhaps we know each other? (The pool table went about three months ago - too many hills and valleys for people to cope with!)

Bluebeard - whenever you can make to UK!

I cut my folk-singing teeth in the Welcome Inn in Rusholme (30 years ago). Does that still run on a Tuesday evening?

Would Eddie Bryn Pugh be the Bryn Pugh who used to dance with the Manchester Morris (again, 30 years ago) then left to join Rumworth after which I lost touch with him?

Bring both John, Its mostly singing but then everybody's welcome and a tune is always appreciated. What it definitely isn't is a 'diddly diddly' session.

I'm sorry, I have no idea about metro times. A friend of mine lives in Altrincham though and uses them all the time (not into folk music so unfortunately won't be joining us). I'll give him a ring and post later.
