Subject: Lyr? "wedding bells are breaking up..."
From: pete savage
Date: 25 Jul 97 - 12:55 PM

I'm planning a sing along for a wedding reception in the near future, and am looking for a source for the lyrics and the music to "wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine".

I haven't been able to find anything locally, and my web sources are exhausted. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Many thanks!!

Pete, I wouldn't have any idea where to find the music, unless a larger music store would have it in a collection of songs from the 50's and earlier. Or if you have connections with a local SPEBSQSA chapter, they might have a barbershop arrangement you could adapt.
The words are:

Not a soul down on the corner;
That's a pretty certain sign
That wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.
All the boys are singing love songs,
They've forgot Sweet Adeline;
Those wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.
There goes Jack, and there goes Jim,
Down to Lover's Lane.
Now and then we meet again,
But they don't seem the same.
Gee, I get a lonesome feeling,
When I hear those church bells chime;
Those wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.

The tune is on an album by a quartet called The Gashouse Gang. Check the following for ordering info. http://timc.pop.upenn.edu/gashouse/records.html

I sing this song quite often but I don't have it on a record.The fiddle player I play with all the time does an excellent job on this tune.It isn't the easiest tune to chord to, due to the fact that the chords must be right on time and it does have some beautiful chords.The words that have been posted are the correct words that were written in 1930 or before and I learned them of of a 78 in the 1930s.Louie Roy

These lyrics copied from http://torontorhythmaires.lyrics-online.net/WeddingBellsAreBreakingUpThatOldGangOfMine.html:

WEDDING BELLS (ARE BREAKING UP THAT OLD GANG OF MINE)
Words, Irving Kahal and William Raskin. Music, Sammy Fain. 1929.

VERSE: What a lonely town this is for me,
Things are not just what they seem to be.
I see all my pals, spooning with their gals,
They don't seem to have much time for me.

CHORUS: Not a soul down on the corner, that's a pretty certain sign
That wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.
All the boys are singing love songs. They forgot "Sweet Adeline."
Those wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.
There goes Jack, there goes Jim, down to lovers' lane.
Now and then we meet again but they don't seem the same.
Gee, I get a lonesome feeling when I hear the church bells chime.
Those wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.
