Subject: Attention LEFT-HANDED guitarists! From: Steve Parkes Date: 31 Jul 00 - 03:55 AM Good news for all you Southpaws! Last week on UK tv (Channel 4, I think) I saw a kit to convert a right-hnded guitar to left-handed stringing. It's called SADDLE BOY and costs around £20. I don't know who makes it (except it's British), and I couldn't find it on the Net this morning, but no doubt someone can supply the necessary info? It was a documentary programme, not an ad. The kit cosists of a replacement bridge that sits on the guitar saddle with requiring major open-heart surgery on the instrument, so you don't reduce a £1000 Gibson to something between an Eko and a Martin Colletti, and (I think) a replacement nut. Obviously it doesn't alter the internal bracing, so I expect the instrument would sound a bit funny compared to a normal left-hander, but it does mean you can have any guitar in the shop, not just the two lefties. From: SDShad Date: 31 Jul 00 - 09:37 AM Well, having restrung two cheap classical guitars to lefty without changing the nut, I'd say if the kit doesn't include a lefty nut, there's no point. Otherwise you have enormous intonation problems. Now I just play a lefty-built Ovation Folklore. Much better fit than restringing a righty. Chris |
