Subject: Solo sound reinforcement From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 01 Aug 00 - 07:43 AM Through the apparent theft of my pa/amplifier I am in the market for sound reinforcement. The little 30W amp with 10" speaker worked well for Starbucks gigs. The only complaint I had was that one channel had only a 1/4" plug and no XLR. I mike my voice and my guitars. Does anyone have any recommendations or cautions concerning what I might buy? I am also wondering about going to a 6 or 8 channel power monitor and speaker system. That would give me some flexibility for any type of acoustic sound event. I don't want to spend more than $1200 (US). Many of you know I value the opinions here on the Mudcat and I will be thankful for any input you might have. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Solo sound reinforcement From: Lady McMoo Date: 01 Aug 00 - 08:15 AM Roger, I have tried (but couldn't afford to buy at the time although I think it's within your budget)an excellent and VERY portable Dynacord system. Very compact stand-mounted speakers, one of which incorporates a 4-channel mixer, 200W, separate bass enclosure (optional). The sound was very good indeed and best of all it fitted in the boot (trunk)of a small car (which is all I have!). I used to use a five-channel 150W Ohm system, also with compact Bose-type-design speaker enclosures. Very good sound and I'm sorry now I sold it when I changed countries. Peace mcmoo |

Subject: RE: Solo sound reinforcement From: Big Mick Date: 01 Aug 00 - 11:30 AM Roger, I used to use a Soundtech 8 hole amp and a couple of Peavey speakers. It will work fine, and if you cruise the pawn shops you should be able to do quite well on the price. Another alternative is to take a serious look at the Fender Passport systems. Elderly has them. Here is what the catalogue says: FENDER PASSPORT 250 PORTABLE SOUND SYSTEM photos complete self contained 'suitcase' sound system, 250 watts total (2 x 125 watts), 4 mic/line inputs plus 2 stereo input channel, digital reverb, stereo record outputs, only 53 lbs, 2 full range speaker enclosures with four high-efficiency 6.5" speakers per cabinet, 2 mics, internal antennae with docking station for new wireless systems, and all connecting cables PASSPORT.....list $949.99.....our price $665.00 buy I have used these systems and they are very versatile. I am considering buying one now. They pack up into a neat little configuration, are easy to set up and are ready for wireless if that is important. Mick |
