We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

To quote from Whitman, 'O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless--of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?'

Answer. That you are here--that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.

That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse...

What will your verse be?

Tom Schulman, from The Dead Poets Society

It's true, isn't it? That we get so caught up in our workaday lives and material things that we forget what IS worth living for, eh? Writing and composing music should have been mentioned in the verse.

What will be your verse?

Moonchild,

Thank you so much for that quote....it means alot to me...writing poetry is what helps me to cope with the day to day workings inside my head...either humorous or serious....it permits me to see what I hold in my heart and mind and to share with others....Thank you again...Blessed be.

When I lived in a climate that allowed me to sleep with windows open, one of my joys was waking up to the sound of birds singing or leaves in the trees rustling. I haven't been able to do that in a long time. I miss it. I need to find the birds again.

The birds never really leave, they are always there....sometimes you can't hear them against the backdrop of human noise, but if you go searching for them in your heart you will be sure to find them.....just like all things of beauty...

" A sad deserted shore
all the birds are leaving
ah, but how can they know
its time for them to go
but I will still be here,
I have no thought of leaving
I do not count the time

Who knows where the time goes
who knows where the time goes
