Subject: what do mudcatters want? From: GUEST,an observer Date: 06 Aug 00 - 05:48 PM So what do catters want? Catspaw would like to talk about making instuments but has fun if he makes people laugh Kat would like the whole world to love each other, and is grateful whenever we do anything that tends in that direction Mooonchild would like the same, but it would have to be on her terms Peter T would simply like to talk Malcolm Douglas would love to talk about folk songs all day long, but is too nice to complain when we don't Joe Offer would just love it if we got on, and talked a bit more about folk stuff Pene Anzul would like it if he were as good as Joe Offer Max would like it if people sent him lots of money for doing very little (but hey, he's busy) Guest would like it if he could ask for lyrics and not be overwhelmed with garbage - but what the hey |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Sorcha Date: 06 Aug 00 - 06:13 PM Sorcha would like for all the trolls and flamers to go away so she doesn't waste time reading stuff that flames her friends and can get on with looking for and posting lyrics and tunes. She would also like it if everybody loved everybody else, but nobody is that good, not even kat. Joe Offer would like to be able to stop cleaning up Sorcha's abc poop. Mario would like it if all the songs in the DT had tunes. Dick would like it if he had all the missing tunes added. Max would like it we sang more Blues. moonchild would like it if some (posters--I won't call them people) would leave her alone. I think I should quit now, and go do some more poopy abc's. |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Rick Fielding Date: 06 Aug 00 - 06:16 PM I'd like a home team (Toronto Blue Jays) who would actually spend the money to buy some Major league caliber pitchers to go along with David Wells and Billy Koch. Oops, sorry. Wrong thread I guess. Well, if it's a Mudcat wish-list, I wouldn't mind a few more folks who'd like to chat about Wilma Lee Cooper, Carl Story, Buddy Moss, Alton Delmore and Dick Justice. Heck, I'll settle for a few more who've even heard of them. Other than that....it's pitching I want. Rick |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Aug 00 - 06:23 PM Get real Rick.......Y'all are gonna' have to wait a few years to get the money up again to buy yourselves another WS win. Cleveland had the money and blew it. Cincy won't spend the money. Hell man, I screwed on both sides of the state in both leagues!!! And you're worried about one lousy team? Seen the Christian influences thread lately....Its going that way. Spaw |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Sailor Dan Date: 06 Aug 00 - 06:25 PM Well I guess I have to get into the act also. I agree with Sorcha's remarks pertaining to the people listed in the ""Observers"" remarks. But the one thing that bothers me is "Its always some ""Guest"" of the non-descript kind that always has something to say about other people. Those who hide behind the anonimity of the title "GUEST" that have the audacity to make remarks about the members of the cat are the lowest form of ""thing"" in the universe. And thats an amazing thing for me to learn. Because being involved with the seas and oceans, I thought whale shit was the lowest thing in the world. Oh well, what the hell, I guess I was wrong again Sailor Dan. By the way Guest lower then whale shit, if you have anything you would like to say directly to me use my email danhealy@prodigy.net. That is if you can rise to the surface of humanity. Sailor Dan |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Rosebrook Date: 07 Aug 00 - 01:09 PM What I want....I want someone in the television industry to become interested in making a television series about Mudcat - where each week people could tune in (pun intended) to a cast of characters that they will grow to love, each sitting at their computers and participating in an online community with an exchange of providing information and offering opinions. Character development could happen by following a few of the mudcatters from their computer into other aspects of their lives...their work, their family. People would be interested because many people surf the internet and could identify with this activity on some level. Highlights of the show would be those touching moments which demonstrate the humanity of mudcatters through knowing each other (i.e. Pat being given a bike for his son, etc.), summer road trips, other gatherings, etc. I would want every episode to include live music... either beginning or ending each episode in a HearMe session, Mudcat radio, etc. so that the audience could see and hear music being made. There's plenty of drama at the Mudcat...protagonists... and plenty of conflict. We have the ingredients for a hit show! This could do a lot of things: it could raise the money Max needs to be paid handsomely to be the Mudcat Administrator on a full time basis, if he so chooses and for all the upgrades he would want. It could be an educational tool for those people new to the Internet. I would love to see a show that featured folk/blues music on prime time TV! It could promote a folk revival. After the show becomes a household name, I foresee little boys and girls around the world aspiring the play the mandolin, banjo or penny whistle. Meanwhile, they could play with their action figures of Joe Offer, katlaughing, and more. Hey, if the Partridge Family can do it.... And if not a television series, well I'll settle for continuing to read threads about music from people who bring a worldwide wealth of knowledge and experience to this forum, listening to an excellent weekly radio show, and participating on HearMe as much as I can. I love this place. Rose

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Noreen Date: 07 Aug 00 - 01:10 PM Hi Rick, On my keyboard there is a key laballed 'Alt Gr' to the immediate right of the space bar. When this key is held down, e becomes é, a becomes á (and 4 becomes € ?!). Worth playing around with if you've got a similar keyboard. Otherwise, people have posted various other ways of loading accents, fadas, etc. in other threads- ask again if you need these. Regards Noreen |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: GUEST,Sailor Dan at work Date: 07 Aug 00 - 01:12 PM I would love never having to get angry at people who dont sign in as themselves just to taunt other catters into an angry mode. I myself not being very musical,(trying to learn the Banjo) or very knowledgeable about music theory and history, I would love to just sit in the background and read the various threads about music and instruments. There is so much knowledge running loose here it is remarkable. I wish I could assimilate it all. I would also just love to feel the warmth of the people on the cat as they interact favorably with one another. MY trouble is I'm Irish and have come to like certain individuals and their postings and take one hell of an offense when some non-descript no name "Guest" decides its time to raise a ruckus. I'm like a protective father or something like that. To those who sign in as Guest with a name as Fibula Mattock at least they have the gumption to name themselves. Its the other ones that raise my anger. All I really want is to enjoy the wonders of the cat. Sailor DAn |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Mrrzy Date: 07 Aug 00 - 02:07 PM Noreen, my thoughts are with you. But back to the original question. I want to know -or be able to look up- the words to all the songs I like. I want to learn to read music, some day. I want to learn to play an instrument, some day. I want to create thought-provoking threads when posting about something that isn't musical but which I think at least some other Mudcat folks would enjoy discussing. I want people to stop worrying about whether I am (or anyone else they aren't in bed with at the time is, for that matter) male, female, straight, gay, bi, white, black, red, yellow or brown. I want to keep viewing life as a floor show - it is so much more entertaining that way! |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Naemanson Date: 07 Aug 00 - 02:15 PM Rose, you have described a utopian ideal that is, unfortunately unattainable. However, if we all believe really hard and clap our hands we could achieve the second folk revival. LOL-WSER For that is what I want. A world where the common folk (i.e., those that now have no idea of what folk music is) know more about folk music than Danny Boy, Shenandoah, and Kumbiya. |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Naemanson Date: 08 Aug 00 - 07:41 PM Whirled peas is what you get when everyone acts all mushy towards each other instead of sniping and backbiting. If the Iranians and Iraqis could learn to love one another and the rest of us we would be on the road to whirled peas. If the US would act more like a neighbor and less like the cops we would be on that road. If... But I could go on and on. Whirled peas would be an ideal attainable by giving everyone a cat and a banjo. |

Flushed the hell out of it and put a smile back on my face. Thanks Come to think about it, the bilge pumps only ran for 32 seconds and it was all over. Actually as listed above to attain whirled peas, all I need is a cat. The other thing I want is to play the banjo like one of the Osbornes brothers. Oh well I can dream . Sailor DAn |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Peter Kasin Date: 09 Aug 00 - 03:12 AM Most of what I wanted from the Mudcat when I signed up in January is there; the songs, the knowledgeable folks. What I didn't realize I would get is the online community and friendships. It makes this site a part of us, not just a place for information. What I would like to see on the 'cat is a database of tunes in gif and abc formats (personally, I prefer gif). I've seen several sites with gif format, but the databases are smallish (good, though). I also want the cvility one toward the other that has existed on the Mudcat the last couple of days to continue. And I want someone to buy my latest screenplay. DougR |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: CarolC Date: 09 Aug 00 - 09:15 PM DougR, I heartily concur. (Except the part about the screenplay. I'd have to read it first.) |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: DougR Date: 09 Aug 00 - 09:51 PM Carol C.: it would be "G" rated, if that's what concerns you. Did you see "The Straight Story," with Richard Farnsworth? My story is suitable for the whole family too. Glad you signed on to the balance of my statement without reservation though. DougR |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: Peter Kasin Date: 09 Aug 00 - 10:12 PM If it's anything like The Straight Story, let me be the first in line for your screenplay! Should have ran away with the Oscar, in my book. Sorry for the thread creep. |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: DougR Date: 10 Aug 00 - 11:58 PM CarolC; Oh, I've got some PGs, and some Rs, but the one I like the best is the family movie. Movies don't have to have a bunch of violence, sex (not opposed to sex mind you), car crashes, etc. to be interesting. I dont' know if you have seen "The Straight Story," but it is a very well told tale without any of the above. DougR |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: CarolC Date: 11 Aug 00 - 03:02 AM DougR, I have not seen "The Straight Story", although I very much admire Richard Farnsworth. When was it made, and by whom? I'll try to see if I can find it. I agree with you that there are some very fine movies that are rated "G", but there are also some wonderful "R" rated movies that don't have a lot of violence, sex, and car crashes. I highly recommend "The Milagro Beanfield War", if you haven't already seen it. I'm not quite sure why they rated it "R", for some reason, they did. Carol (with apologies to everyone for the massive thread creep, although since this thread started out as a flame, maybe all's fair) |

Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: bflat Date: 12 Aug 00 - 10:23 AM Little Hawk, I saw Autumn in New York last night. Winona is a beauty and I can see why you might want her. But she didn't live. The movie killed her. The first 30 mins. are fine after that too predictable. Why don't you just let her know how you feel. Women like that. See somone care. bflat |
Subject: RE: what do mudcatters want? From: DougR Date: 12 Aug 00 - 01:46 PM Yes, I have seen that movie, Carol. Very good. I can't imagine why it was "R" rated either. "The Straight Story" was released in 1999. Fransworth was nominated for an Academy Award for his role. Creep, Creep, sorry! DougR |
