I have discovered some wonderful tunes written by Andy Hornby, and I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me about him.

I gather he is English, but is he a performer or a composer? Is he anyone famous?

Alison - I haven't looked at the tunes yet
But I have heard of Andy Hornby. Not much I'm afraid though. Around three years ago I replied to an advert for a cheap plastic flute. the suppliers also produced Tune books and one of the tunes is 'The Clocks Back Jig' by Andy Hornby. I seem to remember AH being mentioned as playing in a band in an area of the Uk called The Forest of Bowland, a Cd by his band was in production (sorry can't remember band name).Unfortunately the company that produced my tune book has gone bust I think. It may be worth contacting Folk Roots magazine as I think they ran the tunebook ads. and they nay have heard of AH.

Just got a reply as follows

Hi Roger I'm based in Lancaster and help organise the (not very) famous Clocks back festival held on the last weekend in October. I attempt to play just about anything I can get my hands on and I love most types of Traditional music and a lot of the rest. Mainly I play mandolin, octave mandolin, whistle and flute. (so you may find my tunes sitting better on these!) I play with a jobbing ceilidh band called Free Reed Band (cassette available) and a highly eclectic trio called Trio Rat with a clarinetist (Richard Robinson) and a wiz guitarist called Tony Cooke (home produced live CD available) Website at Richards homepage www.beulah.demon.co.uk I may have a book of some of my tunes available by post Can you pass this on to Alison... Ta (by the way, who is she, where is she from and what does she play? Cheers..Andy

Andy's reply seems particularly modest . .

Also the Richard Robinson he mention host the best single ABC tune collection on the web, IMO:

(Thinks: why did Alison refresh this thread?)

No, I'd never heard of him but I have now :-)

Does he have a new website? The old links above don'[t seem to work.

(Always on the lookout for new chewns so might be interested)

She refreshed it because someone further down was asking for info on Andy.

Any chance we can join the two now?
