Subject: Route 66- 'Rock Me' by Ethel Waters
From: Miss`Ippe

Ethel Waters was once a guest on TV's Route 66. She sang a Blues tune, Rock Me in your Arms to Sleep. It haunts me yet. I want the lyrics. Can anyone remember?

Well, This one is Muddy Waters, but I'll bet it's the same one. If not, post any snippets of lyrics because I found a LOT of stuff called Rock Me, but nothing by Ethel specifically.

Rock Me by Muddy Waters doesn't fit. Ethel's song went kinda like " rock me in your arms to sleep. Cause when I'm in your arms, Pretty Baby, Oh, I sleep so deep."

Sorry, nothing on that order, but I did ask on the Ethel Waters Bulletin Board and maybe we will get an answer.

sorry to be late.

I remember the show. I sing the lyric "cause when you put your arms around me, honey I sleep so deep" because that is my memory of it, and have added some tranferrable couplets from other songs. I believe it is out on a cd collection but I haven't gotten it yet. regards fortunato.

Recieved this e mail today, maybe this will help find this song. When I have time, I will go looking again.

Sorcha

Hi! Just happened to see your comment on the Ethel Waters Bulliten Board. This was my first visit. I think that probably the reason you can not find the lyrics to the song you are looking for is that you may be looking under the wrong title. There may well have been a song or melody titled "Rock Me" on that episode of Route 66 and it has been a long, long time since I have seen it (would love to see it again), but the title of the episode and the main song that Mom Waters sang was "Goodnight Sweet Blues". Miss Waters was a good friend of mine and I miss her very much. I hope that this helps you with your quest.

Sincerely,
Rev. Kelley E. Welch

Copied from http://www.televisionheaven.co.uk/route.htm
Notable guest appearances on ["Route 66"] included ... perhaps most importantly, Ethel Waters in the 6th October 1961 episode "Goodnight Sweet Blues", a performance that led to Ms. Waters being nominated for an Emmy award, the first such nomination for a black actress.

(where someone seems to have the entire episode on audio tape!)
Rock me, rock me in your arms to sleep.
Rock me, rock me in your arms to sleep.
When I feel your arms around me,
Oh, I sleep so deep. Goodnight, sweet blues.

Was there any more to the song than the verse posted by Jim Dixon?

That episode of Rt 66 with Ethel Waters suggested that the name of the group(family) with whom she sang was named The Memphis Naturals. Does anyone know if any of the band members played themselves in that episode?   Jo Jones sometimes confused in real life, with Philly Joe Jones, played A.C. Graham. Was Jo Jones playing Philly Joe Jones and was there really an A.C. Graham? Who really was in the MEmphis Naturals and where might I find their records? Many many thanks! This episode of Rt 66 really touched me.

Love this song. That's weird that there's no lyric to this song sang by Ethel Waters. Ethel voice from singing really touch. Me. From episode of route 66. I wish I knew where I can get CD on this Ethel water singing it.
