Subject: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? From: Jacob B Date: 10 Aug 00 - 02:28 PM It's about twenty years since Sergeant Pepperoni moved away from Boston. Does anyone know where he ended up? Sergeant Pepperoni (Paul Cole) was a one-man band, and he could play more instruments at one time (17) than anyone else in the world. He played for the brothers who edited the Guinness Book of World Records once. They confirmed his world record, and were impressed that he was able to get music from all of the instruments, not just noise, but they didn't put his category into their book. Paul also used to play pipe and tabor for the Black Joker Morris Men. Has anyone seen him, anytime in the last twenty years? Jacob |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? From: Jacob B Date: 18 Aug 00 - 03:32 PM I'll refresh this in the hope that some who just checks Mudcat on the weekends has seen Paul. For that matter, does anyone know of any other one-man bands with folk connections? Jacob |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? From: GUEST,John cole Date: 23 Feb 12 - 11:06 PM I was searching for a picture of my dad playing as Sergent Peperoni or his One Man Fife and Drum Corp, when I found this old post. My father passed away in 2000. |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? From: GUEST Date: 13 Nov 12 - 06:58 PM So sad to hear that Paul Cole has passed on. He was a regular at my coffeehouse in Harvard Square in the 70's. I don't think I have any photos, but I probably have some recordings. Of course, there's the clip of Paul in the opening credits of the old TV show Banacek. |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? From: GUEST Date: 08 Nov 13 - 01:23 PM Indeed. I took this in March of 1977 with my Leica M4. I also have other views, including from the back, showing his lettered "Sgt. P." drum, if there's any interest.. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b606/chdnemb/img046_zps60f8d709.jpg |

Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? (Paul Cole) From: GUEST Date: 20 Oct 14 - 10:17 AM Mr. Cole was my grade school music teacher...Loved this man! In 1982 my older sister was getting married, and my mother decided that Sgt Pepperoni would be the best wedding suprise for the bride & groom. I was only 10 at the time, but I will never forget the look on my sisters face when he walked in to the reception. The old german relatives were in heaven! God bless Mr. Cole and all of the happiness he provided throughout the years. |

The group members were Paul, Tony Saletan, and Irene Saletan. To my surprise, their record on Old North Bridge Records is still available on vinyl. If you're interested google it. |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? (Paul Cole) From: GUEST,Liz Cole Sheehan Date: 23 Nov 20 - 08:59 PM I appreciate this old thread. I'm Liz, daughter of Paul Cole aka Sgt Pepperoni. Thank you for the photos and news listings of my dad; Something to share with his grandkids and mine. Its great he brought joy to "the old German reletives" as he some himself. I'd be thankful for any photos of Sgt Pepperoni or the Colonial Town Cryer/Fife & Drum. Paul made the blockprints he turned into "colonial newspapers" he sold for 0.25 cents. |
Subject: RE: Anybody seen Sergeant Pepperoni? (Paul Cole) From: GUEST,Robert Lord aka Robie Bones Date: 23 Jul 22 - 07:02 PM Wow! Today I was watching an episode of Banacek from 1974 (The Vanishing Chalice). There he was, at the very beginning, in the fife and bass drum outfit. I was overjoyed to see him. It has been a while since I listened to the "Yankee Tunesmiths" LP, but his minor version of "Girl I left Behind Me"on fife has been part of my personal repertoire for all these decades. And, every time I play "Minstrel Boy" I can hear his fife and bass drum version echoing through the downtown canyons of Boston on a quiet Sunday afternoon. It is a wonderful memory. |
