I clicked on the link, but all I got was the name of the band and a crest. Maybe it's under construction.

And why not bring the thread back to things Czech? That's where it started.

I will look into this recording. It sounds like the kind of rare and out-of-the-way music I like. When I travel, I always try to buy recordings of the authentic music of the region. I now have traditional music from Iceland, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, and New Zealand. (a friend bought New Zealand on my behalf.)

Msybe next year it will be from middle Europe.

And yeah, I have some strange hours... I don't go to work until 11AM (noon-2 on mondays...), if that helps explain it.

Ooh, just because I might not get the chance again, let me recomend the album "Deep Polka" on Smithsonian/Folkways. A collection of polka music, and related music, of Wisconsin. It's got Vatra, a Croatian tamburica band, on it, one of my favourite bands. Czech polka on there, too. (Watch in amazement as I bring it back to things Czech!)

Oh, polkas aren't so bad. For example, the housework gets done faster if you listen to polkas. And it's impossible to feel resentful of the chores for long while they play in the background.

Yes, there is traditional music from all the Eastern European countries. The Sovietski catalogue, among others, offers CD's from some. I got a Slovakian one, in prep for a family reunion, fully expecting lots of horrid polka music, and was pleasantly surprised at the non-polka-ness of the music.:-) You might try your local university library for ethnic music archives.

Say, I once met a Scotsman named Campbell who scoffed, "Mrazek! How is anybody supposed to pronounce that?" I told him that we have no trouble pronouncing Br, and why should Mr be much different? M and B are close together in our mouths.

Later I realized that I should have asked him how we are supposed to pronounce "mpb" (as in the middle of "Campbell.")

Hope this thread will still be on when I'll have the right name to give you.My dad got back yesterday from working at a Czeck folk festival.I've heard bits of it and the stuff is amazing.All folk music from there and rounds(up until Finland)is amazing,the sung one as well...I don't know if it's played in sessions like Celtic/English/others,because it's terribly difficult and my personal opinion is that you have to be a classical player with GUTS&Guts of technique to face it.But then again,those crazy fast fast fast Hungarian fiddlers are considered folk,so...

I spent the best summer of my life busking in Prague. The charles bridge is the first place to go, after about 9.00pm.

After that, check out the reubensbar on the "other" side of the bridge, (the side where the cool clock tower isn't) I can't remember the locations of the other venues or their names, but there are loads of places to go.

If Prague has something to shout about, it is its bohemian culture. Consider that the Vaclav Havl was an anti establishment poet and a saxaphone player.

In fact, you can even go to the seedy Jazz club where he took Bill Clinton for an impromptu jam session.

My dear husband (DH) and I are considering a trip to Prague next summer. We have seen a travel book which said there is a lot of neat music in Prague. Have any of you been there, and was there much music?
