Subject: Hybrid Instruments & the English Guittar From: Jim Krause Date: 11 Aug 00 - 06:00 PM Rather than be guilty of thread creep, I decided to start this one. There were some posts about Downeast Bob's mandobanjo. The thing looks like an English guittar [sic] with a banjo neck attached. Does anyone else besides me play the English guittar? There's a guy in Scotland named Rob MacKillop who plays it, and recorded some. I have talked on the phone with a fellow out in Utah who just got one from the same luthier who built mine. Anyone? Oh, if you want to see a photo of an English guittar click |

Subject: RE: BS: Hybrid Instruments & the English Guittar From: Shanti Date: 16 Aug 00 - 06:00 PM Oh, now I know what you're talking about. From that sound clip, it sounds like a cittern of which the article said it is a forerunner. A little deeper than a mandolin, but along the same lines. I don't play one, and until today, I'd never heard of the instrument. I do have a friend in Vancouver who plays the cittern and/or the bouzouki. They're very popular with Celtic musicians these days. |
