This is a Bob Gibson song, and I will fish out my OTSFM songbook and see what progression that version uses. I remember him doing it live. Very powerful. PP&M brought it to everyone's attention during the folk scare.

I'll start another thread about the Bob Gibson bio, after I check the forum.

PS: Where is "New messages since your last visit" ??

WELL, WELL, WELL
Camp/ Gibson- Melody Trails. Inc. BMI

Refrain:
Well, Well, Well, Who's that callin'?
Well, Well, Well, Hold my hand.
Well, Well, Well, Night is a-fallin',
Spirit is a-movin' all over this land.

Lord told Noah, Build him an ark,
Build it out of hickory bark.
Old ark a-movin', and the water start to climb,
God send a fire, not a flood next time.

(Refrain)

God said fire comin' judgement day,
He said all mankind gonna pass away.
Brothers and sisters don't you know?
You're gonna reap just what you sow.

(Refrain)

World's not waitin' for the Lord's command,
Buildin' a fire that'll sweep the land.
Thunder out of heaven, comin' Gabriel's call;
And the sea's gonna boil and the sky's gonna fall.

(Refrain)

Thanks, Joe. Problem was, I couldn't remember my password. It was so obvious I am still groaning.

Anyway:

(Em)Well, Well, Well, Who's that callin'?
(Em)Well, Well, Well,(Am) (G) Hold my hand.(B7)
(Em)Well, Well, Well, Night is a-fallin',
(G) Spirit is a-movin' all (B7)over this land.

(G)Lord told Noah, Build him an ark,
(Bm)Build it out of hickory bark.(or: Rain started fallin' and the skies got dark)

(Em)Old ark a-(E7)movin', and the (Am)water start to climb,
(G)God send a fire, not a (B7)flood next time.

same to the end, when you repeat the Well 3x, on Em, singing E -- B -- C#

Joyous Singing!
(Refrain)

God said fire comin' judgement day,
He said all mankind gonna pass away.
Brothers and sisters don't you know?
You're gonna reap just what you sow.

(Refrain)

World's not waitin' for the Lord's command,
Buildin' a fire that'll sweep the land.
Thunder out of heaven, comin' Gabriel's call;
And the sea's gonna boil and the sky's gonna fall.

(Refrain)

Hello, first of all sorry for giving this old thread a Frankenstein
treat, but this great song is timeless.
I wonder if that song would raise eyebrows if I played/sang it today ...hehehe

But to my ears, the "Well-Well-Well" E => B => C# does not sound right,
at least listening to the Studio version.
There are variations of how Bob Gibson sings it, the first figure is

E => G => B    ...then 2nd comes out like this: E => G => A
well,well,well                                                 well,well,well

Here is a great, yet different live version of Gibson&Camp
(Laurel&Hardy of Folk?! ..no offense, I love them! )
Well, Well, Well on Youtube

Here's how Woodchucks do it, as learned from Sandy (bigchuck), doing lead:

Refrain:

[Em]Well, Well, Well, Who's [Am]that [Em]callin'?
Well, Well, [A]Well, [B7]Hold my hand.
[Em]Well, Well, Well, Night [Am]is a-[Em]fallin',
[G]Spirit is a-movin' all [B7]over this land.

[G]Lord told Noah, Build him an ark,
[Bm]Build it out of hickory bark.
[Em]Old ark a-movin', and the [Am]water start to climb,
[G]God send a fire, not a [B7]flood next time.

(Note that the A in the second line of the chorus is an A major, even though all the other As are minors. That's not a typo.)

Peter

Hi Peter,

That A-major corresponds to what I meant to say.
Other than that, it's the same as posted eleven (-omg-)years ago.

The PP&M version does sound a bit to "shallow" to me. Maybe that's to
harsh a word, Mary sings it great but Bob and Hamilton sing it more
"edgy" if you will. I guess it was written with the threat of the A-Bomb in mind...?

Happy holidays to all of you.
