Jon, I can't provide a midi, alas, but the tune is quite similar to the one given in the midi for version (3) in the DT, which is the Planxty version. If you have any opportunity to hear the album ("Broken-Hearted I'll Wander"), do so -- it's just one great song after another with lovely arrangements. Maybe Orua can report back with any refinements to my chord suggestions. Best, Margaret

What tune does he use Margaret, I am aware there are several versions but I can't make those chords fit the tune I use. Any chance of a midi or is it one of the midis in the DT?

Jon

Yikes, that didn't work at all. Let me try a more narrative description. . .

(F) When Boney (Bf)com (F)mand (C)ed
His (Bf)armies to (F)stand
He (Bf)levelled (F)his (Dm)cannon
Right (C)over the (Bf)land
He (F)levelled (Bf)his (F)can (C)non
His (Bf)victory to (F)gain
And he (Bf)slew my (F)light (Dm)horseman
On the (C)way coming (Bf)home

Hope that's intelligible, it's too late at night for me to come with another creative solution. . . Margaret

Orua, here's my interpretation. It's not authoritative at all, so play at your own risk! He does it in F, so I'll give you those chords, though I play it in a different key. Hope I can get the formatting right. . .

F Bf F C Bf F
When Boney commanded his armies to stand
Bf F Dm C Bf
He levelled his cannon right over the land
F Bf F C Bf F
He levelled his cannon his victory to gain
Bf F Dm C Bf
And he slew my light horseman on the way coming home

The chorus is the same as the first two lines of the verse. If you're like me and don't care for playing loads of Fs and B flats, but still want to play it in F, you could always capo up to the third fret and substitute D for F, G for Bf, A for C, and Bm for Dm.

Or let me know if you'd like it in another key and I might be able to help.

All the best, Margaret

There are a few different versions in the DT of this with tunes search using BONLGHT or try Broken hearted I'll wander or Bonny light horseman.
