Hi folks. Sorry I have been gone so much, but I have been on the road w/o a laptop. I will be glad when this election is over.

My question comes from a friend. Here is what he asked

Mick, have you ever seen the movie "The Snapper" made in Ireland around '93? Anyway - at the end of the flick ... when the credits are rolling there is this great version of "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" (yea - the Elvis song). I'm trying to find out who did it - and try to find a copy of it. It's not listed in the credits. Maybe somebody you know over the big pond will know about this.

Poor guy. Apparently he isn't aware of the greatest resource around for this type of thing. Let's see how long it takes for this great bunch of caring folkies to figure this one out.

All the best,

Big Mick

OK, this is a tough soundtrack to find... And I've never seen this movie. BUT, I think I've got the answer: UB40. I found this info, written in some South-Slavic language, here. This would make sense, also, because UB40 covered that song back in '93 on 'Promises and Lies'. Hope that helps, Mick.

I've seen the movie and loved it and remember the song, too. I'm afraid I like it better than Tha' King's. Sorry. No brickbats, please.

Welcome back Biggus Mickus ...

Man, us Mudcatters have way to much time on our hands. A huge Big Mick hug and slap on the back to Lepus Rex for finding that website. Just amazing, but no less than I expect from the best damn village on the Internet. I love this place.

Wyo Woman, you know that I love ya. Unfortunately I will be VERY busy as I prosecute the Gore Campaign in the great state of Michigan. We have much to do in the next 12 weeks or so. But I will be dropping in every chance I get. And get your cooking utensils unpacked, you never know when I will be stopping in to cook that seafood meal I promised.....LOL.

All the best,

Mick

Shit, I just heard back from my friend. He said that it isn't the UB40 version. Sez he, it is sung by a woman who does it in a very Irish style. I am not sure what he means by that. He indicates that it has a pennywhistle in it and it is playing during the credits and is not credited in them. Can we keep trying, my friends?

It has been some time since I have seen that movie but I am sure that the song is performed by a band bcalled Lick the Tins. This version also appears on the soundtrack of the 1987 movie called Some Kind of Wonderful starring Eric Stoltz and Lea Thompson Steve O

Guest with email for a name, just thought I'd add that you can find that version also on Lick the Tins' 1995 album "Blind Man On a Flying Horse."

It's good to know that Gore will do well in Michigan and I'm proud to know yer in there swingin Mick. Despite his faults, Gore is a saint compared to the other big ticket.

Did ya notice when you say "I've been on the road without a laptop" it's exactly the same cadence as "up shit creek without a paddle" and means pretty much the same thing...

I want to see this movie which of course is the second part of the Roddy Doyle trilogy including "The Commitments" (yeah!) and the much lesser-known "The Van". Hard to find tha li'l Snapper for some reason.
