Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: Sorcha Date: 19 Aug 00 - 12:14 AM Mostly just refreshing. Seems to have been written by Paul Dresser (Dreiser), 1859-1906), and maybe performed by Duke Elligton. NO luck at all on lyrics. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Oct 02 - 04:12 PM "Rosie, Sweet Rosabel" was written sometime in the period 1888-1895 by Paul Dresser. The sheet music exists in the archives of the National Museum of American History , but images are not available online. I had no luck finding lyrics, either. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Jun 09 - 11:23 AM The British Library has the sheet music; its catalogue, describes it thus: ROSIE, SWEET ROSABEL Words and music by Paul Dresser. New York: G. T. Worth & Co, 1893. The New York Public Library also has it, but only the cover is viewable online. That's all I was able to find. The web site that GUEST links to above requires you to install a special plug-in to hear their music; I don't want to do that. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: ClaireBear Date: 11 Jun 09 - 12:31 PM I don't know if this is helpful, but this Web page leads one to believe that this song was included on a sound track for the film "Houdini" in 1998. Not having seen the movie, I don't know if the song was actually audible in the film, but it might be worth a visit to the video store to find out. C |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: GUEST,Guest Date: 24 Oct 09 - 06:51 AM I found some lyrics which I followed while I listened to the song and I think these are it: Rosie, sweet Rosabel I love her more than I can tell For me she casts a spell My charming black-eyed sweet Rosabel There is a maiden sweet Rosabel, the fairest of all that I know All the beauties of heaven and the riches here below Cannot compare with this innocent Angel of whom I shall tell Listen(?)to the tale of my first love, sweet Rosabel Sweet Rosabel Rosie, sweet Rosabel I love her more than I can tell For me she casts a spell My charming black-eyed sweet Rosabel My charming black-eyed sweet Rosabel I found the lyrics in a song by a band called "The Captain Howdy" who sung a song about Houdini which featured Deborah Harry (Blondie) singing the "Rosabel" lyrics inbetween verses on the song. There are more verses, but I don't know if they are from the original song, or if the band - The Captain Howdy, made them up ? http://www.deborah-harry.com/dh/rosabelle.htm I've adjusted the lyrics to fit the Amick Byram version of the song.(Don't know if the word "listen" is the right word in the lyrics) I managed to find a copy of The Captain Howdy song too: (be warned - it's a little different !) http://www.we7.com/#/album/Tattoo-Of-Blood!albumId=330194 Anyway - hope this helps :0) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rosie, Sweet Rosabel From: GUEST,Guest Date: 28 Oct 09 - 06:59 PM Hi, I forgot to add ... the song was included in the 1998 made-for-television movie Houdini starring Johnathon Schaech. I do believe it was audible in the movie, from memory. It seems that it is a very rare movie to purchase. I don't know if that was because it was in fact made-for-television. I have seen some pre-loved VHS tape (NTSC format) versions of it available from Amazon.com. (Marketplace sellers), but that is about it. Have also found details of the Soundtrack from the movie, but do not think this is available. http://www.hans-zimmer.com/fr/newsite.php?rub=detail&id=108 (The "esnips" link included in the posts above is the version of the song included in the movie, and is sung by Amick Byram) |
Subject: Lyr Add: ROSIE SWEET ROSABEL (Paul Dresser) From: maeve Date: 14 Sep 12 - 10:35 PM ROSIE, SWEET ROSABEL. Copyright, 1893, by Geo. T. Worth & Co. Words and Music by Paul Dresser. There is a maiden, Sweet Rosabel, The fairest of all that I know, All the beauties of heaven And the riches here below Cannot compare with this innocent Angel of whom I shall tell, List to the tale of my first love, Sweet Rosabel. Chorus: Rosie, sweet Rosabel, I love her more than I can tell, O'er me she casts a spell, My charming black-eyed Sweet Rosabel. 'Twas on a cold winter's evening I heard a faint cry at my door, Just a wail, just a something That I never heard before; There on the steps lay a baby, My heart at once seemed to swell, I took it in and I named it Sweet Rosabel. Often we speak of the incident, That cold winter's night long ago, When I first loved the baby, And oh, how it seemed to grow; I loved the child, then the little Miss. I then loved the woman as well, She gave her hand, soon I'll marry Sweet Rosabel Transcribed from free sheet music download, here: http://library.musicaneo.com/sheetmusic/purchase/sm-73005_rosie_sweet_rosabel.html?key=oInoJ-NCvMpU_G1c2IaySX9bUUMKrbAI Lyrics also found here (with minor typos) http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/songster/41-rosie-sweet-rosabel.htm |
