SONG FOR PEACE

Written by Allister MacGillivary

Gentle lady, gentle man,
May I speak that you might understand
I've been thinking we've been rather blind
Let us leave every difference behind.

Chorus Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,
Your sights on horizons wherever you please,
For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,
With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails

Those who suffer, those who cry,
Call for brothers and friends, by and by
For 'tis certain united we stand
Side by side, arm in arm, hand in hand

Little children know the way
They spend life, dream by dream, day by day
And by nature they seem to imply,
We must love, and never ask why

Halifax CBC Live-Feed

This coming Sunday, at 8:30AM Atlantic time (7:30AM Mudcat time), CBC Halifax's Maritime Magazine program will have a special feature/interview called Songs of Land and Sea. The title makes it a natural fit for the interviewee, Allister MacGillivray, the author of many songs about the sea and the land. You can catch the program on the internet at the link above.

Ray, you made me bring out that CD. Did you listen to All Canadian Now? It's wonderful. I hadn't listened closely to that track until this morning, when I as listening to the rest of the CD after working out the words to Song For Peace.

For other Canadians, if you haven't heard that one yet, it's a great inspirational song.

Shoot.

Gentle lady, gentle man,
May I speak that you might understand.
I've been thinking we've been rather blind.
Let us leave every difference behind.

CHORUS: Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,
Your sights on horizons wherever you please,
For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,
With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails.

Those who suffer, those who cry,
Call for brothers and friends, by and by,
For 'tis certain united we stand,
Side by side, arm in arm, hand in hand. CHORUS

Little children know the way.
They spend life, dream by dream, day by day,
And by nature, they seem to imply
We must love, and never ask why. CHORUS TWICE

Ray, I listened to Lucy singing that song, and the line you're interested goes:

For 'tis certain united we stand

Would you mind posting the entire lyrics here? I assume you've gotten the rest worked out.

George.

It's not in the Nova Scotia songbook, Cape breton Songbook, or Song for the Mira songbook all by Allister MacGillivray. The song is on the latest cd - Song for the Mira, all Allister MacGillivray songs sung by other artists. Great cd. Thanks, Ray Whitmore.

I'll check on it. I don't know it off hand. I think it's in the Nova Scotia Song Book, and the library should have it. Will get back to you.

There is a beautiful song that the Barra MacNeils, among others, sing called Song For Peace. It was written by Cape Bretoner, Allister MacGillivray. I can't figure out what the lyrics are for the 3rd line of the second verse. The verse goes.... Those who suffer, those who cry, Call for brothers, and friends by and by, ??????????????????????united we stand, Side by side, arm in arm, hand in hand.

Can enyone help?

Thanks Ray Whitmore
