Subject: Melancholy Baby - Leon Redbone Verses From: GUEST,CBJames Date: 19 Aug 00 - 11:48 PM I am never sure what to call the introduction that leads you into a song. It's all too often omitted in transcriptions. Nevertheless, I am still seeking two introductory stanzas for Watson,Norton & Burnett's "My Melancholy Baby". My recollection of these is : " Come sweetheart mine Don't sit and pine I will do most anything you ask of me ...... " " My love is true And just for you ..... or else I shall be melancholy too" Can anybody out there fill in the blanks for me? Many thanks, jb

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Melancholy Baby - Leon Redbone Verse From: katlaughing Date: 20 Aug 00 - 01:04 AM Here's what I can get from Leon Redbones' LP: Come sweetheart mine, don't sit and pine, tell me all the cares that make you feel so blue What have I done, answer me hon, have I ever said an unkind word to you? My love is true, and (just?) for you I'd do almost anything at anytime; (e'en when you shine?) or when you cry something seems to grip this very heart of mine...Come to me my melancholy baby, etc.... Do you need all of the lyrics? Thanks, kat
Looks like you pretty much had it. |
Subject: Lyr Add: MY MELANCHOLY BABY From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Oct 02 - 03:10 PM Copied from http://www.luma-electronic.cz/lp/l/Locklin/locklin_lookinback.htm And http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Cafe/8636/melancholy.html There is an elaborate jazzy midi file at http://home.istar.ca/~townsend/early_years/my_melancholy_baby.htm MY MELANCHOLY BABY (Words, George A. Norton & Maybelle E. Watson. Music, Ernie Burnett. 1912) « © '44 Shapiro-Bernstein Co. » Come, sweetheart mine. Don't sit and pine. Tell me of cares that make you feel so blue. What have I done? Answer me, hon. Have I ever said an unkind word to you? My love is true, and just for you. I'd do almost anything at any time. Dear, when you sigh, or when you cry, Something seems to grip this very heart of mine. CHORUS: Come to me, my melancholy baby. Cuddle up and don't be blue. All your fears are foolish fancy, maybe. You know, dear, that I'm in love with you. Ev'ry cloud must have a silver lining. Wait until the sun shines through. Smile, my honey dear, while I kiss away each tear, Or else I shall be melancholy too. Birds in the trees, whispering breeze, Should not fail to lull you into peaceful dreams. So tell me why sadly you sigh, Sitting in a window where the pale moon beams. You shouldn't grieve. Try and believe Life is always sunshine when the heart beats true. Be of good cheer. Smile through your tears. When you're sad, it makes me feel the same as you. CHORUS |
