I heard this tune on a movie a few nights ago, and I think it will be a good song to sing at a gig I'm playing next month. Does anyone have the lyrics? I tried a search of the data base but came up empty. I believe it is an old bluegrass song, but I heard a rock/reggae version that sounded like Don Henley. The chords would be nice as well.

Try any of Willie Nelson's Greatest Hits CD's. You might also try COWPIE web site. (Don't have the URL handy, but any good engine will find it). I'm sure OLGA also has it. Good huntin' and I'll look a bit also !!

What a wonderful old hymn! Try Stamps-Baxter's Heavenly Highway Hymns, compiled by Luther G. Presley of Pangburn, Arkansas. As a side note, he should be world famous (but isn't) as the man who wrote When The Saints Go Marching In.

Was the movie, by any chance, "Honeysuckle Rose" with Willie Nelson and Dyan Cannon? I would have sworn the title of the song was "Uncloudy Day", but the lyrics are right, as I remember, to "Unclouded Day" that someone? provided! The song answers to both titles, but Unclouded is correct. Music Boulevard lists 14 entries for Unclouded and 16 for Uncloudy, some with sound samples, though I did not try any of them. Judging from Willie Nelson's recordings, you are probably correct in hearing the y.

Both words and music were written in the 1880s by Josiah K. Alwood, a circuit-riding preacher in the Midwest.

On a bright, moonlit night, he was riding home from a preaching appointment. As he rode along on horseback, thinking about the sermons that he had preached during the day, the melody and words began to form in his mind. Soon he was urging his horse along and singing at the top of his voice.

The next morning he wrote down the words and picked out the melody on the little Estey parlor reed organ in his home. Later a friend completed the tune, and it was published in Chicago about 1890.

Patty G. The movie wasn't Honeysuckle Rose. I saw that one a few times, both before and after they changed the name. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the movie I saw. I guess it wasn't very good, except for the music.
