One of the best of the Mudcatters (IMHO).....even if he is a Republican......LOL.........is Jed Marum. He crafts great yarns, writes great music, plays his instruments very well and sings wonderfully. He has released a CD titled "Streets of Fall River" and it is available from Amazon.com. I had the pleasure of meeting and hearing Jed play at the FSGW Mini-Fest this past winter, and I can confidently recommend his CD. If it's anything like his playing live, it will be marvelous.

The CD is actually released tomorrow (8/25) and it will be also available through the Mudcat. I don't think Max has them in hand yet, but they are enroute (supposed to be at your place on Friday, Max).

Got Jed's e-mail last night and the boy is ale=ready getting good reviews. I have alwyas loved Jed's easy style and fine misicianship and he's a great 'Catter to boot.....although the Texas thing is a problem too.

Major accomplishment, Jed. Way to go. I'll be sure to pick one up directly through Mudcat. If it's anything like the T-Shirts, though, send a batch to Bill Sables. It's quicker to get them by tramp steamer from him than from Max, I understand. Now calm down, folks, it's only a little joke I shared with Bill during the Adventure. Anyway, back to the point. Got a pre-release copy of the CD (thanks Jed!) and it's excellent. I particularly like "Sweet Ellen Joyce" but there ain't a bad cut on the whole recording. Great banjo-picking and a really neat dulcimer effect from the re-strung Backpacker.

Happy Official Release Day, Jed!

Haven't heard the CD yet (ahem...), but I'm sure it's wonderful. And I'm glad to see all those original songs on the list. I guess I'll have to start reading Buddy magazine again -- I didn't realize they were interested in any music that wasn't plugged in six ways from Sunday and turned up to '11'. If the fella from Buddy says your CD's great, then it must be . . . but, of course, all us Mudcatters knew you were wonderful way back when . . . ;-)

Jed - Would you rather have your local friends get your CD from you personally or would you rather we get them from Amazon.? It doesn't matter to me - whichever one helps you out the most and puts the most money in your pocket.

And Rick - as far as groupies go Jed already has a stick to beat them off with - it's called a Martin Backpacker.

Mimosa - thanks very much. I have truely enjoyed your CD as well. I have been listening to it quite a bit, and played it for my wife, who enjoyed as well. I play St James Infirmary too. I've always loved the song.

Wesley - Mudcat will be selling them, or I'll have some at the next session in Fort Worth. And yer right, the Backpacker looks like a guitar stick!

Áine - yer right about Buddy Magazine, it seems their main interest is more of the plugged in variety, but they cover 'acoustic' music too. Tom Geddie seems to personally prefer the folky stuff, though the mag's bread and butter is more commercial.

I'm up in Ada, OK. We'd like to invite you up to one of our Oklahoma City Traditional Music Assn (www.octma.org) monthly meetings. You'll enjoy our workshops, playaround, and jams.
We can do the same as we did for Allan and Bill on their great adventure. Come up to Ada on mid-day Sat; sing, chat, sing, eat, sing; then we'll go to OKC for the meeting; then return and stay overnight in Ada.
We'll give you a 20 minute session during our playaround and you can sell CDs. I'll PM you re setting up details.

Having been priviledged to hear himself sing "Look Ahead Tommy," inperson, it's my favorite, but there's not a bad song on the entire cd. I believe the best you can do for friend or family is to introduce them to the music, to which they "should" be listening. Hope Amazon is prepared for a deluge of orders.

Jed's CD came just this afternoon, and I'm listening to it now. It's delightful. I especially like Prayer from Little Round Top, a song Jed wrote that sounds like it's straight from the trenches of the U.S. Civil War. Joe - I agree - it's got some great stuff on it. One of the things that impressed me most about the CD is that Jed is a folk musician that isn't afraid to put out folk record. I'm disappointed when I heard a folk artist { use your own definition } go into a studio and clutter up the songs with an arrangment that includes drums, pianos, electric guitars and so on. I don't dislike those instruments at all but there is a purity and simplicity to many songs that sound better on just a guitar and banjo. I know it makes me sound like an old fart to express this opinion but there it is. There is something astounding to me about a singer that can get up before an audience and entertain them armed with only a guitar , a good voice and good songs. Jed can do just that. He's the real deal.

THIS IS A SUPERB CD!!!!!!!!

I am completely gassed as is Karen who came out of the shower one night and demanding to know, "WHO'S THAT???" She took the album to work and I'm still waiting to get it back. Several songs are quite striking including the title track. I also found myself wanting to harmonize along, a sure sign I'm in love with a song, and in this case plural.

I have always commented on Mudcat Radio Chat that Jed has one of the most relaxed styles......beautiful pickin' pardner to say the very least!!!! Jed, I hope this CD does well for you and I hope it does good things for your folk career too. What a wonderful piece of work!

Listen to the words, enjoy the tunes, but don't miss out on that easy, flowing, lyrical, picking style either!

Well,I had Jed's CD in my carplayer today,and I just have to say ..WOW.These are not good songs.These are GREAT songs.These are the kind of songs that stick in your memory after the initial listening,then get better and better.I am not saying this because Jed's a Mudcatter...I'm not saying this because he's a super nice person (he can be a real jerk..read some of his posts :>D)...I'm saying this because you can buy this CD now,and later say "Yeah,Jed Marum,personal friend of mine" when he hits big.
