Hi, Chris - we had a thread called Songs for Scouts (click) a while ago. Take a look there, and be sure to follow some of the links in the thread.
You can also do a category search in the blue DigiTrad search box on most pages here. Try putting @kids or @camp in the search box, and you'll be amazed at what you'll find.
We don't have chords to many songs, but if you tell us what particular songs you want, we can help you work our the chords. Just post a message in this thread when you decide.

From: Joe Offer
Date: 25 Aug 00 - 05:19 PM

Hi, Chris -
The lyrics for "Home on the Range" are in our database here (click). I've taken the chords for "Home on the Range" from the Boy Scout Songbook. Check beck later fro the chords for the other songs. I'm sure somebody will post them for you. If you can't find this thread, use the "filter" - put campfire in the filter box, and set the age to whatever is appropriate.
All the best to you.
-Joe Offer, Life Scout and former Cubmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster-

HOME ON THE RANGE

G C
Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam,
G D
Where the deer and the antelope play;
G C
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
G G
And the skies are not cloudy all day

G G
Home, home on the range
G
Where the deer and the antelope play
G C
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
G G
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

And Here's Old MacDonald, from Rise Up Singing:

OLD MACDONALD

(D)Old MacDonald (G)had a (D)farm

E- I- (A) E- I- (D) 0

And On this farm he (G) had some (D)"chicks"
E- I- (A) E- I- (D) O

With a "chick chick" here and a "chick chick" there

Here a "chick" there a "chick"

Everywhere a "chick chick"

Old Mac Donald (G) had a (D)farm

E- I- (A) E- I- (D)O

add in the: "ducks" - "quack-quack"
"turkeys" - "gobble-gobble"
"pigs" - "oink - oink"
"a Ford" - "rattle rattle"
and make up more of your own. By the way, RUS has an alternate version in which Old MacDonald has a BAND...
and in that band he has a
guitar - strum-strum
jug - whoof-whoof
banjo - plunk-plunk
drum - rat-a-tat
tuba - oompah
some singers - la-la

And Joe, where can I learn to put the chords above the letters like they belong?

Hi, Campfire - I used the preformat commands
before and
after the section with chords, making sure to put a line break at the end of each line. You'll find instructions in the Mudcat HTML Guide - there's a link to it in the FAQ. I'll get to work on the chords for Scout Vespers. Thanks for doing Old MacDonald.

SCOUT VESPERS
(Sing to tune of: "Oh Christmas Tree" )

  G D7 G
Softly falls the light of day,
Am D7 G
As our campfire fades away.
G D7
Silently each Scout should ask,
Am D7 G
"Have I done my daily task?
C D7
Have I kept my honor bright?
G
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
D7 G D7 G E7
Have I done and have I dared,
Am D7 G
Everything to be Prepared?"

Here's a verse I haven't seen before. It's not in the Boy Scout Songbook, but it's kind of nice:
Listen Lord, oh listen Lord,
As I whisper soft and low.
Bless my mom and Bless my dad,
These are things that they should know.
I will keep my honor Bright,
The oath and law will be my guide.
And mom and dad this you should know,
Deep in my heart I love you so.

Here's "Cub Scout Vespers." I've never heard it sung (my Cubs always sang "Scout Vespers"), but I found it in the Cub Scout Songbook.

As the night comes to this land,
On my promise I will stand,
I will help the pack to go,
As our pack helps me to grow.
Yes, I'll always give goodwill,
I'll follow my Akela still.
And before I stop to rest,
I will do my very best.

JRO

Note: I am not a guitarist, or at least not a very good one. I adapted these chords from a copy of "O Christmas Tree" that I found in a songbook. If somebody would like to give easier chords or more exact chord placings, I'd appreciate it.

"On My Honor" (words and music by Harry Bartelt) is in the Boys Scout Songbook (2004 printing). Chords are indicated as follows:

On my [G] honor I'll do my [D7] best to do my duty to [G] God.
On my honor I'll do my [D] best to serve my [A] country as I [D7] may.
On my [G] honor I'll do my [D] best to do my Good Turn each [G] day
[E] To keep my body [A] strengthened and [D] keep my mind [G] awakened.
To [C] follow pats of [G] righteous-[C]-ness.
On my [D7] honor I'll do my [G] best.

My favorite boy scout song shows up on this thread
http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=53000#813640

The tune is the Blaze Away March. I was once told it was much sung in England.
