Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Angelo (Brotherhood of Man) From: GUEST,Old Folkie Date: 16 Apr 13 - 07:42 AM Brilliant! Mudcat to the rescue again - you hev made my day! The Barron Knights version of the Bachelors "I wouldn't trade you for the world" has been rattling round in my head for several days now, but I could only remember the the first 2 lines. Luckily my wife does remember it (but nopt the words to it) - I feel a likelihood of us adding a few more verses, then performing it in our local folk club soon, just for a bit of fun! Thanks again |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: GUEST,Pete Date: 12 Sep 10 - 07:43 AM Been trying for ages to find out those lyrics "dont want to go to work" My wife dont even believe anyone sang them, she thinks I made them up Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Jul 06 - 11:19 AM With rumanci's permission here is a bit of the Barron Knights version PM'd to me - Long ago, outside a chip shop in Walthamstow Was a young rocker called Greasy Joe Who put on his helmet and said 'lets go' ??? He was keen Off up the high street like Barry Sheene Doing his best to look very mean Till he met Ann on her new machine Brrummminn away together Brrummminn away in leather Ann and Joe They passed the Bloody Tower At a hundred miles an hour And they were so amazed That Tower Bridge was raised They raced up to the top And found they couldn't stop They flew right off the end And landed in the Thames Hand in hand. They don't write 'em like that anymore:-) Now, who can remeber the version they did of the Batchelors classic "I don't want to go to work On my bike in the rain So keep buying all our records and we won't clock in again..." :D (tG) |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Purple Foxx Date: 24 Jul 06 - 07:02 AM It was the Barron Knights. Sadly I don't recall any more of their lyric but still consider theirs the definitive version of this song. This was also the case with "Rivers of Babylon." |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Jul 06 - 06:57 AM And from either the Barron Knights or the Black Abbots (can't remember which Long ago, over a chip shop in Walthamstow Lived a young rocker called greasy Joe... Anyone remember any more? Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Peace Date: 23 Jul 06 - 11:44 PM Bingo. '"Angelo" was written by Lee Sheriden and Martin Lee of Brotherhood of Man together with their then manager Tony Hiller. Best wishes BROTHERHOOD OF MAN MANAGEMENT' The folks there were kind enough to send the above. |

Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Peace Date: 23 Jul 06 - 04:56 PM A Horse With No Name Written by Dewey Bunnell, ©1971 It was released by a group called "America" in 1972. It became a hit and was played 763 times a day on every radio station in Montreal where I was living at the time. While sitting one afternoon I lost it and unplugged the radio. I took it out back and hit it many times with a brick all the while using bad words in three languages. I did not get another radio for about a year. By then, the song wasn't playing anymore. It's the only song that ever made me react like that. |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 23 Jul 06 - 11:41 AM The song "Angelo" tells an impossible story. In Mexico the rich girl of high family would never have recognized his existence. I agree with Alan. 'The heat was hot'- now that is hard to top! Peace, who is responsible for that one? |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: alanabit Date: 23 Jul 06 - 07:52 AM Yes Bruce, from your other posts regarding this song, I can see that it gets you in a certain way... Now how does it shape up to textual anylysis. Let me see, there is the precise imagery of, "There were plants and birds and rocks and things". Then there is the terse, resonant phrase, "fly with a buzz...". (Who would have thought it?) It moves on to the profound statement, "The heat was hot and the ground was dry..." That one really moved me, because I usually wear my wellies when I am in a desert... Of course, it would be hard for any song to compete with the innate irony of "Angelo". The two ill starred lovers, who are, "Running away from danger," actually top themselves. No doubt about it Bruce. What we have here are two pop masterpieces... |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Peace Date: 23 Jul 06 - 02:42 AM Alan, I have to disagree with you. I comes in waaaaaay ahead of On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot and the ground was dry But the air was full of sound Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name cause there aint no one for to give you no pain La, la ... After two days in the desert sun My skin began to turn red After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was dead You see Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name cause there aint no one for to give you no pain La, la ... After nine days I let the horse run free cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with its life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love You see Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name cause there aint no one for to give you no pain La, la ... |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Peace Date: 23 Jul 06 - 02:20 AM I have sent an e-mail to their management. (Assuming the group still exists.) When and if, I'll post who the author of the song was. I'd never heard it before. They certainly try to out Abba Abba on that cut--I heard a sound bite of 30 secs. |
Subject: ADDPOP: Angelo (Brotherhood of Man) From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jul 06 - 01:49 AM Personally, I think Neil Diamond has about seven of the ten worst pop songs of all time, but I'll agree that this one is pretty smarmy. Nonetheless, it's now an answered request. -Joe- Angelo recorded by the Brotherhood of Man - songwriter unknown Long ago, High on a mountain in Mexico Lived a young shepherd boy, Angelo Who met a young girl and he loved her so Rich was she, Came from a very high family, Angelo knew it could never be, They ran away to their destiny Running away together Running away forever Angelo Running away from danger Hiding from every stranger Angelo They knew it wasn't wrong They found a love so strong They took their lives at night And in the morning light They found them on the sand They saw them lying there, hand-in-hand Long ago, High on a mountain in Mexico Lived a young shepherd boy, Angelo Who met a young girl and he loved her so Running away together, Running away forever, Angelo Running away from danger, Hiding from every stranger, Angelo They knew it wasn't wrong They found a love so strong They took their lives at night And in the morning light They found them on the sand They saw them lying there, hand-in-hand Running away together, Running away forever, Angelo Running away from danger, Hiding from every stranger, Angelo They knew it wasn't wrong They found a love so strong They took their lives at night And in the morning light They found them on the sand They saw them lying there, hand-in-hand Running away together, Running away forever, Angelo Hiding from every stranger, Angelo They knew it wasn't wrong They found a love so strong They took their lives at night And in the morning light They found them on the sand They saw them lying there, hand-in-hand… source: http://www.uppercutmusic.com/artist_b/brotherhood_of_man_lyrics/angelo_lyrics.html |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: GUEST,alanabit Date: 27 Aug 00 - 06:01 PM I think that The Brotherhood of Man perpetrated this monstrosity back in the seventies. Dosn't this qualify as a worthy candidate for the "worst pop song ever" thread? |
Subject: RE: Shepherd boy -Angelo From: Joan from Wigan Date: 27 Aug 00 - 11:07 AM The correct title of the song is "Angelo", but I can't remember the name of the band. I do have the lyrics and will post them if you need them. Joan |
