Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends From: GUEST,Dutchmouse Date: 28 Aug 00 - 12:46 PM Dear Pene Azul, Thank you for your help, but unfortunately are neither of the songs the one I'm searching for! It could be a song of Vin Garbutt. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's a very beautyful song and also very sad. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends From: GUEST,Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 28 Aug 00 - 01:10 PM It's a song by Keith Hancock, from his 1986 album (I have it on cassette - don't know if it came out in any other format) called 'This World We Live In'. Backing vocals are by Christine Collister (from Douglas, here in the Isle of Man) who at that time was in a duo with Clive Gregson, who also plays on the recording. Clive produced the recording and Keith gives him 'Special thanks for technical expertise, artistic advice, encouragement and friendship'! I'll have to slap the tape on again to remind myself of the lyrics. I'll come back later when I've done it. Lhiats, Bobby Bob |
Subject: Lyr Add: ABSENT FRIENDS (Keith Hancock) From: GUEST,Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 28 Aug 00 - 01:48 PM Absent Friends Words and music by Keith Hancock Published by Gregsongs Time heals wounds, they say, And time takes the pain away. I wonder why it never happened for me. It's years since you went away, But I miss you night and day. Why you had to go is a mystery to me.
What seemed important then
It's all very strange,
Time heals wounds, they say,
Small things you do
I always found,
Time heals wounds, they say, Shoh slaynt, Bobby Bob |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends From: GUEST,Dutchmouse Date: 28 Aug 00 - 04:45 PM Dear Bobby Bob, Whow! This is fantastic! Finally I succeeded! This is exactly the song I meant. You've made me very happy. Internet really is a great medium, isn't is? I've heard this song several times in a pub in my hometown Leiden, a nice town in between the Hague and Amsterdam. In this pub they used to do great sessions and somemtimes they performed this song. But the original people who played in the sessions are "replaced" by other ones. And now these sessions are much less interesting. Anyway, whenever they performed "Absent friends" it touched me deep in the heart. I'm very grateful for your efforts. Maybe one day I can be of any help to you! |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends From: bradfordian Date: 15 Oct 01 - 02:46 PM Just heard Vin Garbuts version of ABSENT FRIENDS from "When the tide turns", and I heard a guy (John?) with a great voice do this at the Ingleton Folk weekend, but I didn't take the opportunity to ask him for the words. I didn't know the title so it wasn't easy to search for it but its just been on our local folk programme - FOLKWAVES in the East midlands (UK). It appears that this song is gatherng currency stateside. i thinks its words and tone are very apposite for our US colleagues at this time. If you get a chance, do look this one up it's so evocative. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends From: Herga Kitty Date: 14 Mar 02 - 06:20 PM OK, but verses seem to be in the wrong order. I learnt it as, verse 1, I always found, verse 2, the pictures of you, 3, what seemed important then, and 4, it's all very strange. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Absent Friends (Keith Hancock) From: GUEST,Keith Hancock Date: 30 Jun 15 - 01:06 AM Hello people, I just came across this whilst looking for something else else. The words above are the album version of the song which is the way in which it was written. When Vin recorded it, he felt that they worked better for him in a different order. Then subsequently I was offered the single deal in Holland but we had to make it radio friendly, hence we lost a verse. Thanks for your kind words - love and peace from Southeast Asia, where I now live. K |
