Subject: Old Song From: GUEST,Loh54@aol.com Date: 27 Aug 00 - 07:05 PM I'm looking for the words/music to an old song my mother used to sing. It's probably from the early 1900's, and it's about a doll. The beginning lines are: I've got a pain in my sawdust Somethings the matter with me. Something is wrong with my little insides And I'm just as sick as can be. Has anybody heard of it? |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'VE GOT A PAIN IN MY SAWDUST From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Sep 02 - 06:57 PM Lyrics copied from http://www.webcom.com/eltonron/WeBBS/Read/1466.html I'VE GOT A PAIN IN MY SAWDUST (THE PLAINT OF THE LITTLE BISQUE DOLL) (Words, Henry E. Warner. Music, Herman Avery Wade. 1908.) A little bisque doll and a little rag doll And a dolly imported from France, Were seated one day on the shelf of a store With a doll that could wind up and dance, When all of a sudden the shopkeeper heard A scream that rang out through the store, And this is the plaint of the little bisque doll That caused such an awful uproar: CHORUS: Oh, I've got a pain in my sawdust! That's what's the matter with me. Something is wrong with my little insides. I'm just as sick as can be. Quick, get me a fan. Someone else run for the medicine man. Everyone hurry as fast as you can. I've got a pain in my sawdust! They took her away in a hospital van And the whole town was filled with the blues. Everyone thought it was quite an odd thing And the papers all printed the news. The surgeons looked wise and they all shook their heads And asked her just where she was sick. "Oh, I think it must be appendisawdust. Won't you please do something quick?" CHORUS. [Missing part here] They tried to restuff her but didn't know how And this was her plaint as she died: CHORUS. [Recorded by Kitty Cheatham in 1910, and by Mae Questal in 1935. It was recorded by Tiny Tim under the title "I Got a Pain in my Sawdust" 1968.] E-mail sent.

Music, Herman Avery Wade. 1. A little bisque doll and a little rag doll And a dolly imported from France Were sitting one day on the shelf of the store With a doll that could wind up and dance, When all of a sudden, the shopkeeper heard A scream that rang out thro' the store, And this was the plaint of the little bisque doll That made such an awful uproar: CHORUS: "I've got a pain in my sawdust. That's what's the matter with me. Something is wrong with my little inside. I'm just as sick as can be. Don't let me faint. Someone get me a fan. Someone else run for the medicine man. Ev'ryone hurry as fast as you can. I've got a pain in my sawdust." 2. They took her away in a hospital van And the whole town was filled with the blues, For ev'ryone thought it was quite an odd thing And the papers all printed the news. The surgeons looked wise and they all shook their heads And asked her just where she was sick. "I think it's 'appendisawdust'," she exclaimed, "And won't you please do something quick?" CHORUS 3. Oh, sad was the day for the little bisque doll, For they cut all her stitches away And looked for the seat of the terrible ache. "'Twas a delicate task," they all say, For none of the surgeons had ever before Performed on a dolly's inside. They tried to restuff her but didn't know how, And this was her wail as she died: LAST CHORUS ENDS WITH: "...Ev'ryone hurry as fast as you can." [Play theme of Gounod's "Funeral March"] She had a pain in her sawdust. Copyright 1909 by Jos. W. Stern & Co. Copyright assigned 1920 to Edw. B. Marks Music Co. New York |
