Subject: Mudcat Problems Fixed ? From: Max Date: 04 Sep 00 - 01:28 PM OK folks, I think I figured out most if not all of the problems over the weekend. I suppose you could say it was a mental error on my part. I was trying to increase the realiability and speed of the site by spreading out all the functions of the mudcat over 3 machines. So I needed to make sure each of the 3 machines had the same 10 functions/programs/settings that make the mudcat work. Well... I guess I forgot a couple. The system works by randomly rotating each of the 10 or so functions on the 3 machines, so it is impossible to know which machine you are actually hitting which makes it very hard to test. Over the next couple of weeks, I probably will be doing more tests to try to make the mudcat more instantly responsive to requests. We've been peaking every resource in the evenings, apparently when you all get off work and go home to check the Mudcat... Its a valuable learning process for me, so it hardly seems like work. So if in the weeks to come, you see glitches or errors, don't panic, its just me messing with things. Since it's a random distribution, you could probably close your browser and restart it, or just try back later, and you'll get a different machine. IE is a little more tricky, you may have to reboot your whole machine, for they cache the ip address rather than the domain name (that's nerd for IE sucks). |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Problems Fixed ? From: GUEST, Banjo Johnny Date: 04 Sep 00 - 04:42 PM Sounds complicated! Good luck. I can't seem to "start a new thread" so I would like to ask my question right here. Is it okay to post something For Sale? Or is there another site for that? Thanks for your help! == Johnny in OKC |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Problems Fixed ? From: Max Date: 04 Sep 00 - 08:02 PM Banjo Johnny, if you click shop/auction on the banner at the top, you can add an item to the mudcat auction.
Thanks everyone, but its nothing really. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Problems Fixed ? From: SeanM Date: 04 Sep 00 - 08:02 PM Max (and the rest)... For IE, I believe hitting "refresh" will cause it to ref back to the URL rather than the IP. If not, try Tools/Internet Options/General, then clear both history and temporary internet files. Usually works for me. M |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Problems Fixed ? From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 05 Sep 00 - 06:10 PM Max, When I use the mudcat.org address, I get the message about being down until 3:30 PM. Well, I think it was pretty slick not to mention which day. But if I click on the link for the "help and trouble" forum and then click there for the "main forum" it logs me right on. This has been true for two different computers, one yesterday (Labor Day) and one today, 9/5/00. I, too, appreciate all of your efforts. Maybe I can turn my thanks into something green soon.
