Subject: Salty Dog From: GUEST,JTT Date: 06 Sep 00 - 05:40 PM I've read the various threads on "what's a salty dog", but haven't found a satisfactory answer. I know, for instance, that an easy rider is a man who lives off a woman; I assume a salty dog must have some equally exact definition. But what is it? |

Subject: RE: Salty Dog From: Captain Roberts Date: 07 Sep 00 - 04:34 AM A "Salty Dog", also referred to as a "Salty Jack" is a sailor, at least originally. The references being Salt for the sea and Dog or Jack being references to sailing. what it has come to mean, that's anyone's guess. As for the drink? I've heard of a Salty Dog as Grapefruit Juice, saltwater and Vodka. Go fig...

Subject: RE: Salty Dog From: GUEST Date: 07 Sep 00 - 03:49 PM Always thought Salty Dog just meant rather on the grumpy side. Bob Dylan these days is an old Salty Dog. Jack Elliot is with out a doubt a Salty Dog. Go Ramblin' Man. |
