I was looking for the words to the theme song from the TV series, "All In The Family." (Archie Bunker's Show.) I thought I had found it under the title, "Those Were The Days" but that's a different song. "Those were the days, my friend, I thought they'd never end...."

Does anyone know if the lyrics to the TV show theme is in the DigiTrad Search files? If so, under what title?

Thanks,

Randall

That's the way my day has gone. If I touch it, it goes wrong! One click, two posts.

Sorry about that.

Here ya go:

"Those Were The Days"

by Lee Adams and Charles Strouse

Boy, the way Glen Miller played. Songs that made the hit parade.

Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days.

Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight.

Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days.

And you know who you were then, girls were girls and men were men.

Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.

People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent.

Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days.

Take a little Sunday spin, go to watch the Dodgers win.

Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin.

Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song.

I don't know just what went wrong. Those Were The Days.

Have fun!

kat

Thank you very much, Kat. Boy! All these years, I've been trying to figure out that one line, and I never would have figured it out, but it makes sense. "Gee, our old LaSalle ran great!" The mystery is finally solved. I can't wait until it comes on tomorrow night on "TVLAND." I'll listen to it for the first time, & not wonder, "What did they say?"

Relax now Parson......That's one of the most misunderstood lines in TV history. I remember they did several opening versions of the song with each being more distinct because so many people had asked.

AND...kat....I am impressed...not just the show part, but all the lyrics.....Very well done!!!

Well, thanks, but it was SO easy. All I did was go to www.google.com, enter the words "song all in the family" and it took me right to an about.com site which had them right there. They also had the lyrics for the closing song. Ya wann 'em?*BG*

Glad to have settled that for ya, Parson....anytime

Of course, they didn't sing all the verses on the show, just lines #1,2,5,6,3,and 4 -- the LaSalle line came last. My folks got it right away because my mom's brother-in-law (Uncle Sol) had owned a La Salle. He'd also owned an Edsel, and a DeSoto, and just about every other car that had gone defunct. There was a message there somewhere, but we never found out what it was.

Aloha,
Mark

I always thought searching the web was a kat and mouse game. Now I know it!

Sure, Naemanson, but I should have searched the Mudact first. In the duplicate thread of this one, someone posted a link to an earlier thread, from this year, that already had the words! So, nothing to be proud of after all.

Cool... I never could understand the words to this song. I could only make out: 'Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days. Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight.' ... And the Herbert Hoover bit. The LaSalle part was the worst... I always heard it as something about salad being great.

Now I can sing along. All alone, doing Archie's AND Edith's parts. All by myself. Yup. KILL ME!
