Does anyone know the lyrics to the jig "Dublin Town"? One verse starts out "I would be goin' to Dublin Town, If I had new shoes and a velvet gown." Thanks.

Never heard of this song (and I'm a Dubliner), but it's quoted here as:

I would be going to Dublin town
If I had new shoes and a velvet gown
But since I have neither I'll drive me pigs
And fill my day gaily with songs and jigs

(Can't find any more of it on a search for "going to" and "dublin town" on Google.)

Thompson

Nor do I, another Dub, remember hearing it. Your sample has a whiff of a dandling song/nursery rhyme about it?

Regards

The above lyrics come from the John Thompson first grade piano book. I don't know if there are any others.

Yes. It is in the Thompson book, and my granddaughter is playing the song, and would like more verses to sing along. Since there may not be any, we grandparents may have to create!

Perhaps inspired by the well-known old rhyme:

Hark, hark, the dogs do bark, the beggars are coming to town,
Some in rags and some in jags and one in a velvet gown.
