Chet Atkins and Mark Knophler did a parody version of "There'll be Some Changes Made" on their "Neck and Neck" album. I am seeking the original words to the song. I thought it was written by Merle Travis but I have not been able to find it. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks, khandu

Copied from http://ntl.matrix.com.br/pfilho/html/lyrics/t/therell_be_some_changes_made.txt where it says the words were transcribed from sheet music.

THERE'LL BE SOME CHANGES MADE
(Words, Billy Higgins. Music, W. Benton Overstreet, 1921)

VERSE: They say don't change the old for the new,
But I've found out this will never do.
When you grow old, you don't last long.
You're here today and then tomorrow you're gone.
I loved a man(gal) for many years gone by.
I thought his(her) love for me would never die.
He(She) made some changes that would never do.
From now on I'm goin' to make some changes too.

CHORUS: For there's a change in the weather. There's a change in the sea.
So from now on, there'll be a change in me.
My walk will be diff'rent, my talk, and my name.
Nothin' about me is goin' to be the same.
I'm goin' to change my way of livin'. If that ain't enough,
Then I'll change the way that I strut my stuff,
'Cause nobody wants you when you're old and gray.
There'll be some change made.

VERSE: They say the old-time things are the best.
That may be very good for all the rest,
But I'm goin' to let the old things be,
'Cause they are certainly not suited for me.
There was a time when I thought that way.
That's why I'm all alone here today.
Since ev'ry one of these days seeks something new,
From now on, I'm goin' to seek some new things too.

CHORUS: For there's a change in the fashions; ask the feminine folks.
Even Jack Benny has been changing jokes.
I must make some changes from old to the new.
I must do things just the same as others do.
I'm goin' to change my long, tall Mamma(Daddy) for a little short fat.
Goin' to change the number where I live at.
I must have some lovin' or I'll fade away.
There'll be some changes made.

ADDITIONAL CHORUSES:
1.
There's a change in your manner and a change in your way.
There was time once when you was O.K.
You once said you save ev'ry kiss for my sake.
Now your'e giving all the girls an even break.
I'm gonna send out invitations to the men I know,
'Cause your'e gettin' colder than a Eskimo.
I must have my lovin' or I'll fade away.
There'll be some changes made today.
There'll be some changes made.

2.
For there's a change in your manner. There's a change in your style.
And here of late you never wear a smile.
You don't seem to act like a real lover should.
You can't thrill your mamma if your're made of wood.
I gotta have a man who loves me like a real live Sheik,
With a tasty kiss that lingers for a week.
I'm not over sixty so it's time to say,
There'll be some changes made today.
There'll be some changes made.

3.
For there's a change in your squeezin'. There's a change in your kiss.
It used to have a kick that I now miss.
You'd set me on fire when you used to tease.
Now each time you call, I just sit there and freeze.
You had a way of making love that made a hit with me.
One time you could thrill me, but it's plain to see
You're not so ambitious as you used to be.
There'll be some changes made today.
There'll be some changes made.

4.
There's a change in the weather. There's a change in the sea.
From now on, there'll be a change in me.
I'm tired of working all of my life.
I'm gonna grab a rich husband and be his wife.
I'm going to ride around in a big limousine,
Wear fancy clothes and put on plenty of steam.
No more tired puppies, will I treat you mean.
There'll be some changes made today.
There'll be some changes made.

5.
For there's a change in your manner. There's a change in your smile.
From now on, you can't be worth my while.
I'm right here to tell you, with you I'm through.
Your brand of lovin' will never do.
I'm gettin' tired of eating just butter and bread.
I could enjoy a few pork chops instead.
You know variety is the spice of life, they say.
There'll be some changes made today. (I'll get mine.)
There'll be some changes made.

[Recorded by Ethel Waters, c1922; Ted Lewis, 1924; Sophie Tucker, 1928; and Benny Goodman (with vocal by Louise Tobin) in 1941; and many others.]

And, just for good measure, here's an excerpt from the parody mentioned above, transcribed from a sound sample at CDNOW:

THERE'LL BE SOME CHANGES MADE
(New words by Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler.)

...I'll get down and boogie and become risky.
I'll start wearing makeup like Jackson and Prince.
You'll see me riding in my Mercedes Benz.
Nobody wants you when you just play guitar.
There'll be some changes made tomor-row.
There'll be some changes made.

[Recorded by Chet Atkins with Mark Knopfler on "Neck & Neck," Columbia CD CK-45307, 1990.]

Neither of these sound like the song I remember. Anybody know other lyrics, and do you know who recorded it?

Atkins, Chet & Mark Knopfler - There'll Be Some Changes Made

There'll Be A Change In The Weather And A Change In The Scene
How Is That?
I'm Gonna Start Wearin' Leather And Change My Routine
I'll Wear Dark Glasses Maybe A Toupee
I'll Get Down And Boogie And Become Risque
I'll Start Wearin' Make-Up Like Jackson And Prince
You'll See Me Ridin' In My Mercedes Benz
Nobody Wants You When You Just Play Guitar
There'll Be Some Changes Made Tomorrow
There'll Be Some Changes Made

Y'know Chet, You're Never Gonna Get To Play That Rock & Roll
Why Is That?
You're Kinda Country, A Little Bit Old
That Hurts
But Your Money For Nothin' And Your Chicks For Free
Well, Them Groupie Girls Ain't What They're Cracked Up To Be
Well Not All Of Them Anyway
Well I'd Really Like To Find Out For Myself, Don't You Know
I've Had A Kind Of Quiet Life Down Here On Music Row
Oh I Know
Well Uh... Like A Man, What Do You Think?
Man, I Don't Know
I Really Think That I Can Make The Grade
Daddy-O Daddy-O
There'll Be Some Changes Made
I Think I Was Sharp There
Just Play One - Just Play

Yeah
You've Played Before
Watch It, Watch It
Stand Back Boy

Well I'd Really Like... To Find Out For Myself,
Don't You Know. 'Cause
Like I Said I've Had A Sheltered Life
Down Here On Music Row
I Don't Believe So
Well What... What Do You Think Mark?
I Dunno
I Really Think That I Can Make The Grade
There'll Be Some Changes Made

Now Listen To This I'm Gonna Play Some Rock And Roll

There'll Be Some Changes Made... Yeah
There'll Be Some Changes Made
Now Let's All Play

Anybody Hurt?
I Learned This At... At Summer Bible School
Well, I Never Could Trust A Saint
I'm Only A Part-Time Saint
Pretty Good But You're No Mark Knopfler
What About That One There?
Not All That Bad
I Like That
I Like That
Don't Make Me Look Bad Now, Don't Make Me Look Bad
Respect For Your Elders

There'll Be Some Changes Made

Why--I'm shocked--Shocked, do you hear?(me & Claude Rains) to learn that, if you love what you do & are good at it, humor can flow like warm maple syrup on a stack of hotcakes (or ketchup on a guitar?).      Tw

This version is sung by Edith Wilson and (I think) Doc Straine. They've departed considerably from the published lyrics, so I thought it would be worth posting here. Too bad the song makes light of domestic violence.

The female voice is in Italics. The spoken words are in parentheses. Transcribed from the sound file at Red Hot Jazz (see link above).

VERSE: Now listen, honey, didn't I hear you say
There'll be some changes made here today?
You know you said you'd always be true.
What woman could be true to a man all broke up like you? (But honey,)
I believed in you, an' that ain't all.
I hear, brother, I got to let you fall. (Let who fall? You.)
Your disappointment has changed my mind.
Now some changes in me you are goin' to find.

CHORUS 1: Now look here, long lean brother. (I'm lookin' at you.) I see I'll have to get you told. (Talk on.)
Why, you must remember, honey, that you're gettin' old. (Yeah, I'm just in my prime now.)
Old age and youth (Where is the youth?) don't mix so well, you know. (Yeah.)
And that's why I'm thinkin', honey, (Thinkin' what?) that I better let you go. (You can't quit now.)
Why, I thought I was livin' (You was livin'.) but I just found out (Found out what?)
That since I been with you, why, I've just been hand to mouth. (Do you hear this woman?)
Just like the tide changes (Where?) in the deep blue sea, (Mm-hm.)
Look out, long lean brother. There'll be some changes made in me. (Yes.)
(Don't be a fool, boy.) There'll be quite a change made. (Now listen to me.)

CHORUS 2: You know, I made you what you is today. (Yeah, but I ain't satisfied.) I stopped you from washin' clo'es. (Don't you put that out.)
I bought ever' stitch you got. (These?) Yes, and, oh, ev'rybody knows.
Now there'll be no change in numbers. Your walk and talk gonna be the same.
You're too young to think of dyin'. Don't you try to change your name. (Ow! Baby, don't hit me!)
Now I hope you paid attention to each and ev'ry word that I said,
As you wake up some o' these mornin's and you find yourself just dead.
So get your bus'ness straight, an' have your ... arranged.
There'll be flowers and you won't smell 'em on the day you make a change. (Now don't you be no fool.)
BOTH VOICES: There'll be no changes made.
